Allegations have emerged that Mark Zuckerberg‘s new Threads app, developed by Meta, is censoring individuals who question gender ideologies and displaying a “false information” notice when users attempt to follow Donald Trump Jr. Meta has claimed that the notice was due to a glitch.
Since the launch of Threads earlier this week, Twitter, a rival platform, has seen a surge of outrage over claims that content challenging gender ideologies is being deleted and users are being discouraged from following Donald Trump Jr.
Threads, created by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, serves as a text-based social media platform, directly competing with Twitter in terms of functionality.
A screenshot shared by the popular conservative Twitter account, Libs of TikTok, indicated that a thread dismissing non-binary gender identity was removed by Meta for allegedly violating their guidelines on hate speech. It is unclear whether the posts were actually deleted or if they were intentionally made to test the censorship boundaries of Threads.
Mark Zuckerberg’s Threads App CENSORING People Who Question Gender Ideology?
The user who posted the thread expressed frustration that Threads took action against her post but failed to address the death threats she received. In a separate controversy, Threads displayed a notice asking users if they were certain they wanted to follow Donald Trump Jr. after clicking the follow button.
The warning read, “‘Are you sure you want to follow donaldtrumpjr? This account has repeatedly posted false information that was reviewed by independent fact-checkers or went against our Community Guidelines.”
Trump Jr. addressed it himself on Twitter. He wrote, “Threads not exactly off to a great start. Hey Instagram, threads is verbal, so the whole skimpy bikini thing is not going to work so well if your influencers can’t actually formulate a sentence. You may want to rethink cutting off those who can.”
In a timely response, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the problem and clarified that it was an error that should not have occurred. Stone further reassured that the issue has been resolved and addressed.
