Kyrie Irving has finally issued an apology after tweeting a link to an antisemitic movie, but many fans are doubting the Brooklyn Nets star’s sincerity. One week after he promoted the movie “Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America!” the 30-year-old posted a long apology on his Instagram page late on Thursday night.

He began by acknowledging that he erred by promoting a film that included “anti-Semitic statements, narratives, and language that were untrue and offensive to the Jewish Race/Religion.” He subsequently expressed regret for his conduct to Jews, something he had previously refused to do directly despite having numerous chances in the days that followed after he hit “send” on his tweet.

Irving wrote, “To All Jewish families and Communities that are hurt and affected from my post. I am deeply sorry to have caused you pain, and I apologize.” Kyrie then expressed regret for failing to clarify the portions of the video with which he agreed, another statement that infuriated viewers given how antisemitic the entire movie is. Then, Irving concluded, “I had no intentions to disrespect any Jewish cultural history regarding the Holocaust or perpetuate any hate.”

He has also received criticism for this remark. Is he genuinely conceding the Holocaust occurred, or is he merely apologizing for offending Jewish belief in its occurrence? There is a significant distinction between the two. Irving apologized shortly after the Nets said the point guard will miss at least five games due to the incident. The team issued a statement saying that until he “satisfies a series of objective remedial measures that address the harmful impact of his conduct,” he will not be permitted to play for the organization once more. This season, Irving has started 8 games for Brooklyn, scoring 26.9 points on average.

What do you think? Should Kyrie be allowed to play at this point or should his suspension continue? Let us know in the comments below.
