Kate Middleton recently wrote a powerful essay called “The Power Of Human Connection in a Distracted World.” It was written in collaboration with Boston Professor Robert Waldinger of Harvard University.
Kate Stresses The Importance Of “Human Connection”
Kate warns parents that reliance on screen time and mobile phones is disrupting family life and causing a dangerous “epidemic of distraction.”
When kids spend too much time on their phones, it creates a wall between children and their parents.
In the piece, Kate stresses the importance of “human connection” and that
“meaningful relationships are the single greatest investment we can make for health, happiness, and longevity.”
The Princess of Wales continued,
“Look at the people you care about in the eye and be fully there because that is where love begins.”
She further explained,
“Our smartphones, tablets, and computers have become a source of constant distraction, fragmenting our focus and preventing us from giving the undivided attention that relationships require.”
Kate declared that a nurturing, healthy family life is the foundation for a child’s future success. Technology is driving a wedge between families and people.
The Princess continued,
“We’re raising a generation that may be more connected than any in history while simultaneously being more isolated, more lonely, and less equipped to form warm, meaningful relationships that research tells us is the foundation of a healthy life.”
Kate was speaking to everyone when she advised them to be “fully present” for the people they care about and to develop genuine connections.
Prince William and Kate know that family dinners are a crucial aspect of their family life, as they require their own children to sit down with them for dinner each and every night, no excuses. He also spoke about the importance of sitting down to a family meal every night.
William And Kate Banned Their Children From Having Mobile Phones
The essay concluded,
“For babies and children who are raised in attentive and loving environments are better able to develop the social and emotional skills that will allow them to grow into adults, capable of building loving partnerships, families, and communities. This is our children’s greatest inheritance.”
Comedian Eugene Levy recently interviewed William on the Apple+ show “The Reluctant Traveler,” and he divulged that none of his children are allowed to have mobile phones.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have imposed a strict and non-negotiable rule regarding these devices for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
There have also been calls to ban smartphones in schools. Kate also recently visited a Home Start Early Years Center in Oxford.
Kate’s early years of work are very close to her heart. Forming strong bonds within the family is essential to early childhood development.
She also advocates for children to spend time in “the natural world.” The family is very dedicated to spending quality time outside together.
Kate’s message is essential, as the modern world has become increasingly obsessed with technology, and children have been harmed by spending too much time on their phones and social media.
It is far more beneficial for children to participate in and enjoy a solid family life that includes the kind of activities and rituals Kate and William have with their own kids.
