Prince William recently opened up to actor Eugene Levy on the new Apple+ TV program, “The Reluctant Traveler.” The Prince of Wales was candid about his family and his plans for change when he ascends to the throne.
Some Royal Fans Are Not Pleased About William’s Decision To Make Changes Within The Monarchy
While some royal fans were impressed with William’s fresh perspective on the monarchy, others were not so pleased. The documentary itself is well worth watching.
The American Pie and Schitt’s Creek comedian asked some good questions after the star arrived in England and received a personal tour of Windsor Castle from William, which was one of Levy’s ‘bucket list’ items.
The heir to the throne was riding on an electric scooter when he met up with Levy. He agreed to hit the pub and down a few beers with the Prince of Wales for a relaxed and casual environment. How cool is that?
Williams offered some rare insight into what is on his agenda when he becomes King. William specified,
“I think it’s safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good. And I embrace that, and I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it.”
The Prince also touched on his father’s and wife’s cancer ordeal and how he had to navigate the situation. William told Levy that he felt “so proud” of how Princess Catherine and King Charles for the way
“they handled everything that was thrown at them.”
However, William was also quick to admit that the experience took him to some “not great places.” The Prince learned from the mistakes his parents made and instinctively understood the importance of protecting his family.
William Realizes Family Comes First
He also called 2024 the
“hardest year I’ve ever had.”
He added,
“I’m so proud of my wife and my father for how they’ve handled all of last year. My children have managed brilliantly as well.”
The whole experience made him realize that
“The rug can be pulled from under your feet at any time.”
Some royal fans weren’t too keen on William speaking about change within the monarchy. One of the most significant differences between the traditional reign and William’s future reign is that he has decided not to live at Windsor Castle.
Prince William and Kate Middleton are expected to live in Forest Lodge on the Windsor Estate, which they have described as their “forever home.”
Royal fans have expressed concern about William for his radical choice not to continue the tradition of living in a castle. William doesn’t seem too interested in the history of the monarchy.
William also made it clear that it was important for him to be himself. He explained,
“I take my roles and responsibilities seriously, but it’s important you don’t feel they own you. You have to own them.”
He also added that if you are too hindered by history, you won’t be flexible. William isn’t really interested in the pomp and circumstance of the monarchy.
The Prince Will Pivot From The Late Queen’s Way Of Rule
William isn’t afraid to challenge the way everything is done. There is also some chatter about William, perhaps not being the head of the Church of England.
While William adored his grandmother, he’s going to refresh the monarchy and pivot away from the way Queen Elizabeth II ruled. It’s a new age of social media, which means the communication strategy needs to change. His goal is also to improve the management of PR.
The challenge for William is to be creative and innovative without sacrificing the integrity and history of the monarchy. He wants his son, Prince George, who follows William in the line of succession, to be proud of the royal family and proud of what it means to be a royal.
William also made it clear that family comes first for him. Interestingly, none of his children are allowed to own a mobile phone. They are also required to sit down to a family dinner every night.
Genuine Moments With William
When it comes to his late grandparents, he greatly misses the Queen and Prince Philip. He connects Windsor so much with the Queen. He also acknowledged that when he was younger, his relationship with his grandparents was more formal.
As William grew older, their relationship deepened and became warm. For William, Windsor defines the Queen, and the Queen defines Windsor.
An adorable moment between William and Levy occurred when they played with William’s black Cocker Spaniel pup, Orla. Orla is the beloved family dog of the Wales family, who recently gave birth to four precious puppies. Levy offered Orla some treats, which she happily accepted.
In the coming months, William, Kate, and their children —Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — will move into their new home, where they will reside even after William becomes King.
Levy described his day hanging out with William as
“one of the most thrilling days of my life.”
He added,
“Prince William is an exceptionally gracious host, and I was so impressed by how at ease he made me feel. A smart young man with a great sense of humor.”
