Kate Middleton, Prince William, and other members of the royal family joined King Charles for Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph.
The Poppy Pays Tribute to Those Who Have Perished In Conflict
The King led a two-minute silence at the Cenotaph this morning. His Majesty was emotional as he laid a wreath at the monument as a tribute to those who perished in battle.
Services took place throughout Britain to honor the fallen soldiers. This year’s Armistice Day marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
Meanwhile, Kate looked sophisticated and striking as she arrived at the Cenotaph. She was wearing all black and a single red poppy, pinned to her Catherine Walker coat.
The Princess of Wales also paid tribute to her late mother-in-law by wearing her Collingwood earrings, which once belonged to Princess Diana.
The earrings were a gift to Diana on her wedding day to Charles. She also paid homage to her grandfather, Peter Middleton, by wearing a gold winged Royal Air Force brooch.
The Princess was escorted by her husband, Prince William. The Prince of Wales wore his RAF uniform as a wing Commander and a poppy. He laid a wreath adorned with Prince of Wales feathers.
Their appearance at Remembrance Sunday comes after Prince George attended the Festival of Remembrance with his mother, Kate, on Saturday.
George, who is the future King, stood in for his father, William, who was traveling back from the Earthshot Awards in Brazil.
George looked dapper in his suit and tie, wearing the signature red poppy. The red poppy is a symbol of Remembrance for those who have died in conflict.
Queen Camilla and Kate stood together and sang the national anthem while Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, watched from the balcony. The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester were also in attendance.
The Prime Minister Delivered A Poignant Speech to Commemorate the Sacrifices Made During War
Approximately 10,000 members of the armed forces took part in the Royal British Legion’s march past through Whitehall, alongside 20 World War II veterans.
Ahead of Remembrance Day, the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, delivered a poignant message:
“This Remembrance Sunday, we pause as a nation to honor all those who have served our country.”
He continued,
“We reflect on the extraordinary courage of our armed forces in the world wars and subsequent conflicts, whose service secured the freedoms we enjoy today.”
The PM added,
“Eighty years after the end of the Second World War, we remember a generation who stood against tyranny and shaped our future. Our legacy is peace and our duty is to protect it.”
He continued,
“Such sacrifice deserves more than silence, which is why this Government remains committed to supporting veterans, their families, and those who serve.
Starmer concluded his speech saying,
“Today we remember, and we renew our promise to uphold the values they fought for.”
King Charles began Remembrance Day events earlier this week by visiting Chatfield Health Care, a medical facility in Battersea, London, that provides specialized services to veterans.
He spoke with the veterans about their experiences. Many of them had PTSD and had suffered the toll that war can take on a person.
King Charles also appeared visibly moved last night during a rendition of God Save the King at the Festival of Remembrance.
The King’s message on such an important day needed no words. It is one of gratitude, and he is committed to ensuring that future generations understand the cost of freedom and the promise that these brave men and women will never be forgotten.
