Kate Middleton paid a moving tribute to teenager, Liz Hatton, who died of cancer. August 31st would have been her 18th birthday.
Sadly, Hatton Passed Away Ten Months After She Was Diagnosed With Cancer
Hatton, from North Yorkshire, passed away in November of last year. The teen was diagnosed with an aggressive tumor, and she was given six months to three years to live. She was determined to make the most of the time she had left.
Sadly, she died ten months after she was diagnosed. Her family is now fundraising to support cancer research.
Hatton’s bucket list project was to learn as much as possible about photography. Her mother, Vicky Robanya, has worked to raise funds and awareness of her daughter’s illness.
At the time of Liz’s death, she wrote on social media,
“No one could have fought harder for life than she did.”
She continued,
“There is a gaping Liz-shaped hole in our hearts that I am not sure we will ever fill. Vicky concluded by thanking the people who made Liz’s final months joyful and added, “You ensured Liz’s last two months were her very best. She flew high until the end.”
The stoic teenager took up photography and worked with one of her personal photography heroes after saving up to purchase her first camera. She received the highest possible grade in the class.
Kate, who also shares a passion for photography. She was inspired and impressed by Liz, as Kate was also diagnosed with cancer.
The Princess shared on social media last September that she was cancer-free after undergoing months of intensive treatment.
Liz was invited to an investiture by Prince William last October. She met with Kate, and the pair were photographed hugging each other.
Hatton’s Family Requested Liz’s Work To Be Displayed Where She Took The Pictures
The Prince and Princess of Wales praised the teen’s bravery and said it was an honor to meet such a wonderful young woman. Kate later invited Hatton to a garden party at Buckingham Palace.
One of Hatton’s images depicted a Yeoman of the Guard on duty at Windsor Castle. The picture was put on display on Sunday in the Grand Reception Room of the castle.
The photo was part of a nationwide display after Hatton’s family requested her work be displayed in the places where she took the picture to commemorate what would have been Liz’s 18th birthday.
The Princess of Wales honored Liz with a touching post on her joint social media accounts that she shares with her husband, Prince William.
The royal couple shared a photograph of Liz and posted the message,
“Remembering Liz Hatton today on what would have been her 18th birthday.”
She continued,
“The photo shown in this image was taken by Liz during an investiture at Windsor Castle in October 2024 and is on display today in the spot where it was taken.”
The post also remembered Hatton for her “unwavering resilience.”
The Princess of Wales understands all too well the “roller coaster” that cancer is. William has described last year as “brutal.” The Wales family faced the uncertainty and devastation cancer brings.
Kate announced that she had officially completed her cancer treatment in September,
“Doing what I can to stay cancer-free now is my focus.”
She added,
“Although I’ve finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.”
