With a change of the guard, it looks like DC lost an icon. While Henry Cavill definitely had his sticklers, he was widely appreciated as Superman and many believed he did great in the role, myself included. He embodied the role of Clark Kent and Superman and we were looking forward to seeing him return again after the announcement in October and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson pushing for his return.

Unfortunately, they seem to be going in a different direction now, and Cavill made the announcement that he will not, after all, be returning as Superman. He made the following post on Instagram,

“I have just had a meeting with James Hunn and Peter Safran and it’s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life. The changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

He concluded his post by saying,

“For those who have been by my side through the years….we can mourn for a bit, but then we must remember…. Superman is still around. Everything he stands for still exists, and the examples he sets for us are still there! My turn to wear the cape has passed, but what Superman stands for never will. It’s been a fun ride with you all, onwards and upwards.”

We wish Cavill the best and are truly upset that we will not get to see him return. We’re sure he will continue to have an incredible amount of success in his career. He will always be our Superman.
