This past weekend, Henry Cavill was rumored to attend Comic-Con on behalf of Warner Bros., but the time never came, and there was no sign of the red cape in the sky. There were rumors, according to a Deadline report, that Cavill would actually attend the event this weekend to discuss more of “Superman” during the WB/DC panel, which had just ended. However, there was no sign of Cavill anywhere.
The prospect of Henry being cast in the lead role in additional films excited fans. However, it appears that it is not in the stars. This would have been the ideal time to reveal some sort of strategy regarding what Warner — now merged with Discovery — is going to do with their most valuable IP, but it appears they are still unsure of the direction the brand should take.
Comic-Con Let Down: Henry Cavill Doesn’t Show For WB Panel Despite ‘Superman’ Rumors
The Rock actually makes references to Superman in a potential match-up in the new Shazam! 2 and Black Adam trailers that WB released in place of “Superman” news. While keeping details under wraps, Dwayne also gave a major hint about the impending fight between his character and Clark Kent. He says he won’t respond to that question right away because it depends on who is portraying the old Superman. Or, Henry hasn’t been cast yet.
We’ll continue to hold our breath as Cavill has been a fan favorite over the last decade and his take on Superman has been revered. While this was a disappointment, WB will be pushing forward with their own DC universe of films, and with the likes of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson at the helm of the long-awaited Black Adam, we could still see Cavill return.
