HBO’s ‘Perry Mason’ is right around the corner and we now have the official trailer for our viewing pleasure. ‘Perry Mason’ stars Emmy winner Matthew Rhys as the titular criminal defense attorney as he tries to solve a horrific case. Also stars John Lithgow and Tatiana Maslany in leading roles to helm up this great remake of the 1950’s series starring Raymond Burr.
Set against a beautiful background of the 1930s, the remake looks to be a little darker in tone and Rhys’s performance seems to be perfect for the character. While it’s not an exact remake, it looks like we may get to explore the character of Mason. Though, with dozens of tv movies and nearly 300 television episodes of the original, what else can they truly show us now?

According to a brief summary on the official trailer, “Based on characters created by Erle Stanley Gardner, this drama series follows the origins of American Fiction’s most legendary criminal defense lawyer, Perry Mason. When the case of the decade breaks down his door, Mason’s relentless pursuit of the truth reveals a fractured city and just maybe, a pathway to redemption for himself.”
‘Perry Mason’ releases on HBO, next month, on June 21. I’m looking forward to it and cannot wait for a good, early detective show. I also look forward to seeing Matthew Rhys take on the role and see what he brings to it, though it will be hard to replace the legendary Raymond Burr.
