Princess Charlotte, the daughter of Prince William and Kate Middleton, turns ten today on May 2nd. A lovely new birthday portrait shows Princess Charlotte during a hike in Cumbria earlier this year.
Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Was Born At St. Mary’s Hospital In 2015
The Princess of Wales took the picture on her iPhone. Princess Charlotte was smiling brightly at the camera; her hair was in a loose ponytail, she was outdoors, sitting upon a patch of lush green grass, and she appeared blissfully happy and carefree.
Her previous birthday portraits reveal Charlotte at home wearing more formal attire. The new picture is a departure from her typically dressy appearance.
Charlotte was born in 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in London and is third in line to the throne. Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, a tribute to both William’s grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, and his mother, Princess Diana.
Charlotte is set to become a Princess Royal like her great aunt, Princess Anne. Her role in the family appears to be keeping her cheeky younger brother, Prince Louis, in line, especially at royal events.
Charlotte attends Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire, which is a private school, and sources claim her parents intend for Charlotte to attend Marlborough, Kate’s former school, when she gets older.
Princess Charlotte often dresses like her mother, who is considered a fashion icon. Charlotte and Kate also share many of the same interests. It’s no secret that Charlotte is a lover of the arts, and ballet is one of her passions.
Taking after her grandmother, Princess Diana, she adores watching ballet performances and is an avid dancer herself.
For Charlotte’s eighth birthday, Kate arranged for her and her friends to watch a Cinderella ballet performance at the Royal Opera House in London.
Princess Charlotte Is Passionate About Ballet Like Her Late Grandmother
William and Kate signed Charlotte up for private ballet lessons when she was three years old, as she loves ballet and tap.
Last Christmas, Kate set up a lovely surprise for her daughter at her Christmas Carol concert. She included her younger son, Prince Louis, in the surprise and got him to keep the Royal Ballet a secret.
Kate told singer Paloma Faith that Louis was a great help to her as he managed not to say anything about it to Charlotte.
When the dancers came on stage, Charlotte became alert and riveted as she watched in the front row. Guests at the concert noticed that Charlotte stood in ballet stance throughout the entire performance as Diana often did.
Princess Diana studied ballet when she was younger and had aspirations of becoming a professional dancer. Diana discreetly took ballet lessons with her dance teacher, Anne Allan.
Charlotte’s grandmother was also a patron of the English National Ballet. Charlotte may have inherited her love of ballet from Diana.
Kate is also a fan of ballet, as one of the first places she went after recovering from her cancer treatment was the ballet.
Charlotte enjoys other hobbies, such as tennis and gymnastics. She’s very active and athletic, like her mother, Princess Catherine. The family often plays sports together.
Charlotte’s birthday photo marks Kate’s return to behind the camera. Kate often takes their children’s portraits for special occasions.
