Princess Anne turns 75 years old today, on August 15th. She was born in 1950, during the reign of her grandfather, King George VI.
Princess Anne Revealed A New Portrait To Mark The Occasion
Buckingham Palace has released a new portrait of The Princess Royal to mark the occasion. The pictures were taken by a celebrated royal photographer who took portraits of Anne for her 60th and 70th birthdays, as well as other shots of other royals like Princess Diana.
The image was captured at Gatcombe Park, Anne’s private residence. In the photograph, she looks regal, wearing a blue and white dress.
Anne has an interesting rule when it comes to her birthdays. She only celebrates major milestones and revealed her policy on the Royals with the Roya and Kate podcast.
Roya claims that Anne’s strict birthday rule is,
“I will do things for my birthdays that have a zero, but I won’t do things for my birthdays that have a five.”
Anne has also canceled all her meetings for today in case the subject should come up. Five years ago, the late Queen Elizabeth hosted a birthday bash for Anne to celebrate her 70th birthday at Buckingham Palace.
The Queen also hosted a secret soiree, which was, of course, a socially distanced lunch with Anne at Frogmore House.
For Anne’s 75th birthday, she went on a sailing trip with her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence.
Princess Anne is said to be the hardest-working royal, as evidenced by her involvement in more than 100 charities at Buckingham Palace last month.
A palace source explained,
“This personifies what her Royal Highness cares about. She didn’t want to do anything for her birthday but bring her charities together to hear more about their work and how she can help them.”
Anne Devotes Most Of Her Time To Supporting Her Charities
The Princess Royal has devoted decades of her time and support to more than 400 charities and patronages.
Last year, Anne conducted close to 500 public engagements. The King’s sister refuses publicity and doesn’t allow journalists to accompany her on her engagements.
A source told Daily Mail correspondent, Rebecca English,
“She’s never felt the need to court public opinion and has just got on with the job with the minimum of fuss.”
Anne is also a royal trailblazer, and she participated in the 1976 Olympics. She became the first member of the royal family to take part in the tournament when she competed in an equestrian event.
She also refuses royal titles for her children, preferring them to have as normal a life as possible. Anne made this controversial choice after her first child, Peter, was born in 1977. She determined that her son would forgo a title.
The Queen was disappointed but still respected her daughter’s decision. Shortly after his birth, Anne dutifully resumed her royal duties.
Anne’s daughter, Zara, was born in 1981 and also has no titles. Zara followed in the footsteps of her mother when she started riding horses and competing in equestrian sports.
Anne’s next milestone will be in 2030 when she turns 80. Anne told her team.
“I’m going to start winding down a little bit at 80, in five years, and then I want to step back completely at 90.”
