Legendary filmmaker behind ‘Ghostbusters’ and ‘Animal House‘ has died at the age of 75. Ivan Reitman’s family was by his side in Montecito, California on Saturday night as he passed away peacefully in his sleep. Not only a great director, but he was also an unparalleled producer, with films ranging from ‘Twins’, ‘Kindergarten Cop’, ‘Stripes’, ‘Meatballs’, ‘Old School’ and ‘Eurotrip’.
In an homage to his father, Ivan’s son, Jason Reitman directed ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ which brought back Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, and Ernie Hudson.
‘Ghostbusters’ Director Ivan Reitman Dead At 75
Ivan was born in 1946 in Czechoslovakia and escaped by taking a barge to Vienna before making his way to the States where he began his journey as a filmmaker.
His family said of Ivan’s passing … “Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life. We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always.”
Reitman was 75-years-old. Rest in peace and thank you for all the amazing films and memories that we made. You will be dearly missed.
