‘General Hospital’ Spoilers is saying that a long time ago in the world of Port Charles, there was an artifact that belonged to the Cassadine family that could bring about what they wanted – world domination. And that was the jewel called “The Ice Princess”. Back in 1981, Edward Quartermaine’s (John Ingle, originated by David Lewis) niece, Alexandria Quartermaine (Renee Anderson) received the jewel, which was the world’s largest uncut diamond.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Will The Ice Princess Return? Is There a Relation To Helena’s Will & the Codicil? Here’s What You Need To Know!
Like all collectors she had the thing mounted on a pedestal and then shipped from Rio to Port Charles, but she hit a snag when she realized that the jewel had been stolen when the ship reached the docks. So she and Edmund hired Luke Spencer to find the thieves, which were, of course, the Cassadines.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: How the whole Spencer/Cassadine rivalry began
Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer (Genie Francis) and the then new WSB Agent, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) all got together to find the diamond and somehow ended up on Mikkos’ s Cassadine (John Colicos) private island. They then learned that Mikkos was planning on using the Ice Princess to hold the entire world for ransom (wait, lol, how does that work?) by using a weather machine that, I’m guessing, used the diamond as the source of its power? There was going to be a new ice age and it was going to start with Port Charles. (Don’t ask me, this happened literally the year I was born, I was not mentally present for it.) And in an episode of Luke Spencer saves the World, he figured out how to turn off the weather machine that Mikkos had created but that kind of ended in disaster when Mikkos ended up very dead by the end of it all.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Curses! Or how Luke and Laura were doomed from the start
In a fit of mournful rage, Helena Cassadine (Constance Towers) placed a curse on Luke and Laura during their wedding, kicking off the three-decade long vendetta-palooza between the Spencers and the Cassadines. Fun! Man, Charlotte really hit the nail on the head, Helena’s more like an Evil Queen! All she needed was a creepy pet bird and a crystal ball, or perhaps a cauldron. Hah!
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: How is all of this relevant to the current storyline?
Since there is a codicil to Helena Cassadine’s will, I’m thinking part of it will involve the Ice Princess. Nikolas Cassadine is always talking about what was stolen from him, what if he’s talking about this confounded diamond? That would just somehow make sense seeing as how he’s so determined to get it back. Maybe he thinks Valentin would somehow implement the world-destroying powers this stone seems to have and Port Charles (and the rest of the world) would be in epic danger just like it was in 81.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: If it rightfully belongs to Nik then eventually it will belong to Spencer, do we really want that?
My idea is that somehow, the stone will bypass Nik’s hands completely and fall into the hands of Spencer anyway, in spite of what everyone else wants. Maybe it’ll be sort of like that scene at the end of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s stone where it was only Harry who could touch the stone and Voldemort couldn’t. It honestly sounds like a confrontation that might happen between Spencer and Valentin Cassadine and I personally think it would be hilarious. But there’s also the question of Spencer’s age and arguably his maturity level… I could see him rescuing the artifact, but using it?
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What if he’s corrupted by it?
There’s always that possibility with cursed jewels. Sometimes when a person touches a cursed jewel, a person winds up corrupting their very soul. Now, some might argue that little Spencer is just a kid, so his heart is pure and he couldn’t possibly be corrupted by a cursed object but this isn’t a fantasy movie we’re talking about, this is Port Charles. I don’t think a curse would give even a young child a free pass just by virtue of age alone. Also, it’d be interesting to see what a cursed Spencer would do to Valentin, it also might give Valentin the White Knight he seems to see himself as.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Alternately, what if Spencer uses it against Valentin
This would be an excellent comeuppance to all the lies and scheming that Valentin has told over the years. He hasn’t been a good guy, he’s lied, schemed, even gave Nina a fake daughter and ruined a lot of lives so having something happen to him by way of a cursed jewel is just too good of an opportunity to pass up. Although right now there’s no guarantee that’s going to happen, in fact, it might go the other way.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What if Valentin finds the jewel first?
Valentin looks like the type of guy who would try and hold the world for ransom just like ol’ Mikkos. Now, he could be completely different, he could try and destroy the gem but somehow Valentin doesn’t really strike me as the selfless type. If he stood to gain something by possessing the jewel and using it, then no doubt he would use it to its full potential. And if it happened to obliterate any enemies that Valentin might have? Then so be it.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What would Nikolas do?
Since Nikolas has little Spencer to think of, the only logical thin for him to do in this instance would be to play the white knight and destroy or perhaps maybe get rid of the diamond. However, if this jewel has magical properties that can corrupt people simply by touching it or being in its vicinity then Nik might be corrupted to and he might just work with Spencer to obliterate Valentin if that happens. All in all, I guess we’ll just have to stay tuned to see if the Ice Princess will be incorporated into the whole will codicil story line.
