‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers suggest that Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) heart condition should lead to something more.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Will Sonny Have An Epiphany And Leave The Mob?
Sometimes, GH crafts beautiful, heartfelt stories surrounding real-life conditions and illnesses, but other times, it falls short of our expectations, and the soap misses the opportunity to weave a powerful, realistic tale.
We have to wonder if the writers have a higher purpose in mind with Sonny’s heart issues. Brick (Stephen A Smith) arranged for Sonny to see the best cardiologist in the country in Los Angeles.
Brick had a dire warning for the mob boss that his enemies couldn’t find out, or else they would see it as a weakness and potentially strike.
Natalia Ramirez (Eva LaRue) went with Sonny to his appointment. After Sonny had been told he needed a pacemaker, the doctor claimed he didn’t, which was confusing. Instead, he needs some heart procedure, but Sonny decides to wait.
Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rotta) followed Sonny and Natalia as his goon relayed the information. So now that Sidwell knows, will he blackmail Sonny or use it against him?
Maybe if Sonny does have a heart attack and almost dies, he’ll have an epiphany as well. Will he decide life is too precious and he doesn’t want to be involved in the business anymore?
The writers could take this story in a positive direction. Sonny could reevaluate his life choices and decide he’s had enough of the danger and destruction his lifestyle brings.
We know Sonny was softening and being cautious of his own health when he agreed to 50/50 custody with Ava Jerome (Maura West). Sonny could evolve as a character if he chose to leave the criminal life behind him.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Carly May Be The Only One Who Can Get Through To Sonny
Of course, the soap could easily move in the opposite direction. If rival mobsters discover Sonny has a heart condition, they could attack. Is the soap foreshadowing more violence and mayhem coming Sonny’s way?
While many fans would prefer to see Sonny continue to run his criminal enterprise, a poignant moment of realization might be just what the doctor ordered.
Sonny could confide in Carly Spencer (Laura Wright), and she could make him see the gravity of the situation, prompting him to do this procedure sooner rather than later.
Carly may be the only one who can convince him to take action. She’s helped him with his bipolar disorder in the past. Sonny’s heart condition can catalyze a significant shift in his priorities or even bring “CarSon” together.
It’s not evident that this story has a clear purpose or direction. Sonny doesn’t seem overly concerned with his health enough to take care of this procedure immediately.
The heart is the most critical organ in the body. It’s not a good idea to put off a medically necessary heart procedure until the timing is more convenient.
Until we see that Sonny puts his health first or that the consequences result from ignoring the issue, we can’t invest in a story that appears to be going nowhere.
