‘General Hospital’ spoilers suggest that Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) needs to come back from the dead and reunite with his true love, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Liz Is a Legacy Character and Has to Suffer with Lackluster Material
Liz is a legacy character who has proven time and again that she can drive a story. Of course, her story should include a major love interest.
Since Johnathan Jackson, who played Liz’s first love, Lucky Spencer, is no longer a viable option, it’s time for Liz to reunite with Franco.
Yes, we understand that many devoted “Liason” fans still want Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Liz to get back together, but the love of his life is the late Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).
Now that she’s gone, we want him with Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) already! We really did prefer Elizabeth with Franco anyway.
A decade ago, when Franco first started to become a redeemed character, we saw the insane chemistry between him and Liz.
Part of the reason the pairing worked was the pure brilliance of Herbst and Howarth playing opposite each other. The sparks flew, and fans took notice.
Franco acted like a shy teenager with a crush around Elizabeth, and it was charming to watch. Both characters shared a love for art, which translated beautifully, as they are, deep down, two tortured souls.
When playing Franco, Howarth gave an empathetic, multi-layered performance, and frankly, we miss seeing him on GH.
Yes, Franco was a reformed serial killer, but in the magical world of soap operas, where coming back from the dead is as commonplace as rush hour traffic, we need to be forgiving as an audience of the genre.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Herbst’s Talent Is Being Wasted On GH While Howarth’s Is Wasted On Y&R
Sadly, Howarth’s talent is currently being absolutely wasted on The Young and the Restless, where he plays a far less likable sinner with zero chance for redemption.
With Matt Clark, Y&R did what it does best and painted the character into a corner. It’s yet another villain in the lives of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Sharon Newman (Sharon Case), whom the Great Victor Newman (Eric Braden) will ultimately conquer and defeat. (Yawn).

Plus, Howarth has only been slated for a short-term role on Y&R. Why not bring him back to GH when he’s finished playing on Y&R?
Howarth deserves better material than what Josh Griffith is capable of writing for him, and Franco was his best GH character. He brought significant levity and charm to the soap.
Elizabeth is also in desperate need of a sexy romance. She didn’t even get to sizzle with Lucky the last time he was in town, which was depressing.
When Lucky finally kissed Liz, after all that build-up, Herbst was kissing a recast. It was very disappointing. Then Lucky left town to set off on an adventure, and Elizabeth hasn’t had a love interest since.
Liz and Franco were electric together. Howarth needs to return to GH to give the good nurse a love story worthy of Herbst’s highly underused talent.
Elizabeth is an iconic character on the show, and she needs to stop being on the back burner and get into a juicy storyline.
