Kelly Kruger is headed to Port Charles — and longtime General Hospital fans finally have a reason to get excited about Serena Baldwin again.
The former Young and the Restless and Bold and the Beautiful actress has officially joined the cast of General Hospital in the role of Serena Baldwin, marking the character’s first on-screen appearance in nearly a decade. With deep ties to some of Port Charles’ most iconic families, Serena’s return could open the door to several intriguing story possibilities.
Kelly Kruger Joins General Hospital as Serena Baldwin
The casting news was first reported by TV Insider, and Kruger couldn’t be more excited about joining the ABC soap.
“I am so excited to be joining the show!” Kruger shared. “It’s a literal dream come true to finally get to work with Frank Valentini and Mark Teschner after all these years! Daytime has a very special place in my heart, and I have always wanted to work with the actors and writers on this show. I truly believe the level of talent and work they put out is the absolute best.”
Kruger is already well known to soap fans. She portrayed Mackenzie Browning on The Young and the Restless and later appeared on The Bold and the Beautiful as Eva. Beyond daytime, she’s appeared in numerous primetime series and television movies while also building a massive social media following.
Her first day of filming is June 8, and viewers can expect to see Serena arrive in Port Charles sometime in July.
Why Serena Baldwin’s Return Matters
For newer viewers, Serena is the biological daughter of Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner) and Dominique Stanton (Shell Danielson).
One of the more unique stories in General Hospital history saw Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring) act as a surrogate for Scott and Dominique after Dominique was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor. Tragically, Dominique died before Serena was born.
After Serena’s birth, Scott eventually left town with his daughter and much of Dominique’s inheritance. Years later, Serena became a central character on Port Charles, where fans watched her grow up through kidnappings, family drama, and even a temporary blindness storyline.
The last time viewers actually saw Serena was in 2017 when she returned to Port Charles to mourn the death of her grandfather, Lee Baldwin.
Serena Already Has Connections Waiting For Her
Even though Serena has been off-screen for years, the character has continued to exist in the General Hospital universe.
Fans may remember Scotty revealing in 2022 that Serena had been arrested in the Faroe Islands following an altercation involving dolphin hunters, establishing that she had become a passionate environmental activist.
Her return could also create an entirely new dynamic with Cody Bell (Josh Kelly). Thanks to Dominique’s connection to Mac Scorpio (John J. York), Cody is Serena’s half-brother — a relationship that has never really been explored on-screen.
With Lucy still active in Port Charles and Serena tied to several established families, there’s no shortage of ways for the writers to quickly integrate her into current storylines.
Frank Valentini Welcomes Kelly Kruger to Port Charles
Executive Producer Frank Valentini also shared his excitement about bringing Kruger onto the canvas.
“I am excited to have Kelly Kruger join the cast of General Hospital. She’s a terrific actor and we look forward to working with her.”
As for Kruger, she’s already looking ahead to what comes next.
“I’m honored and excited to be stepping into this role,” the actress said. “I cannot wait for the fans to meet Serena!”
After years of fan requests and speculation about Serena Baldwin’s future, it looks like General Hospital is finally bringing Scott Baldwin’s daughter back where she belongs — and we’re definitely curious to see what kind of trouble, secrets, or surprises she brings with her when she arrives in Port Charles this summer.
