‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers suggest that Amanda Setton, who plays Brook Lynn Quartermaine, deserves an Emmy for her powerful performance as her character has finally discovered the truth about Gio Palmeri (Giovanni Mazza).
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Setton Wanted To Do Justice To Brook Lynn
Brook Lynn had a son, Gio, with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) when she was a teenager. She believed she’d given him up for adoption, and he’d had a good life with a family who loved him.
Little did the songwriter know her mother, Lois Cerullo (Rena Sofer), was hiding Gio in plain sight. Busybody Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Breuning) figured it out and confronted Lois at the Nurses Ball.
Gio overheard the two ladies arguing in the dressing room, and let’s say Gio’s reaction rocked Port Charles.
When Brook Lynn went to confront Lois, that’s when we saw Brook Lynn at her angriest.
In preparation for this pivotal scene, Amanda Setton told Soap Opera Digest she wanted to make sure she “did justice to her character.”
“I wanted to give the audience and the fans this climactic moment and also serve Brook Lynn,”
She explained.
Brook Lynn’s rage toward her mother for lying to her for twenty-two years was palpable. She was hurt, confused, and in unspeakable pain that her mom betrayed her like that.
The emotional intensity of the scene was unparalleled by anything else Setton has ever had to convey through her character, Brook Lynn. The actress was flawless in her scenes opposite her on-screen mom, Sofer. Setton owned those scenes.
Viewers felt Brook Lynn’s heartbreak at learning that the young man she’d been living with at the Quartermaine mansion was, in fact, her son.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Setton Lost Her Voice, But Powered Through
The acting challenge this storyline presented to Setton was twofold when Setton lost her voice.
“I had done weeks and weeks of work, long days working up until this moment, and we had just done three days of the Nurses Ball,”
She shared.
“I wasn’t sick, I didn’t feel stressed, but still, I lost my voice,”
Setton explained that her body didn’t want to do these emotional scenes.
As a mother, she didn’t want to go there. However, Setton fought with everything in her to make those scenes work.
In the end, Setton felt that losing her voice was a blessing.
“In God’s plan, so to speak, the voice worked even better because Brook Lynn had nothing left,”
She disclosed.
“She was empty, she was raw.”
Setton has had some of the best work of her career with this story. After Brook Lynn went to her mom, she disowned her, and Dante came to speak to her.
Those scenes were emotional and poignant, and perfectly conveyed the level of trauma both Brook Lynn and Dante were experiencing.
Brook Lynn dreaded that conversation with Dante for over 20 years. When it finally happened, she had to admit to him why she didn’t tell him. Brook Lynn spoke of how scared she was and couldn’t face him.
Setton left fans speechless with her moving performance as Brook Lynn had to absorb the shock, pain, and betrayal she felt over this life-changing discovery.
