‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: GH Special Reveals Steve Burton’s Return
The powers that be hinted at a Jason Morgan return after the GH primetime special, “General Hospital: 60 Years of Stars and Storytelling”, which aired on January 4th.
GH was wise to keep Burton’s long-awaited return under wraps until the end of the special. They provided three doors arranged in a row of white, dark, and white. Laura Wright, who plays Carly Spencer, walked out of the first door and said, “You know what they say when one door closes…..”
Kelly Monaco, who plays Sam McCall, opened the third door and finished her co-star’s sentence, “Another one opens.” The two women had a sly, knowing smile, and the suspense was building.
Suddenly, the middle door opened, and a dark, shadowy figure emerged. The person came forward. It was Steve Burton as his character, Jason Morgan, wearing his signature leather jacket, black jeans, and t-shirt.
“Happy Anniversary, General Hospital,” Burton exclaimed. “Stay tuned. Big things are coming to Port Charles.” And the three had revealed the secret.
Burton returns to GH after his run as Harris Michaels on Days of Our Lives has ended. The news was a pleasant surprise to GH fans, who knew nothing about his return.
The way his return was introduced was extremely clever, with Carly on one side and Sam on the other. It seemed like the show was saying that while Burton’s run on Days had ended, his return to General Hospital would be spectacular.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Who Will Jason End Up With?
It made viewers wonder if the show hinted at a potential triangle or maybe a reboot of one of Jason’s romances with Carly or Sam.
The show could soon be headed in a different direction when Burton reprises his role as Sonny Corinthos‘s (Maurice Benard) right-hand man.
Before Jason “died,” he had just married Carly, even though the marriage wasn’t valid because she was still married to Sonny, who was presumed dead at the time.
Sonny came home on Jason and Carly’s wedding night. Luckily for Sonny, he came home in the nick of time before anything happened between his best friend and his wife.
The show may explore the unresolved feelings between Carly and Jason. Many fans are not warming up to the pairing of Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) and Carly. Things could quickly shift when Jason comes home.
It is similar to the situation with Sam and Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zaprogna). Many fans want to see Dante with Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan) and Sam with Jason.
It’s an old formula, but it seems to work for fans used to watching these couples together. It appears the show is dancing around Jason being paired with either Carly or Sam again.
That being said, many fans have their heart set on a Sonny and Carly reunion. The show might be more innovative with a Sam and Jason reboot.
In the meantime, we are still holding out hope that Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) isn’t dead either and that he will come home to his lady love, Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst).
