‘General Hospital’ (GH) Spoilers: announce that Kelly Monaco is celebrating her 20th anniversary playing Sam McCall on (GH). Kelly originated the role of Samantha McCall on October 1st, 2003. Monaco was first on GH’s sister soap, “Port Charles” from 2000 to 2003.
Kelly played Livvie Locke, and General Hospital came calling when Port Charles was canceled. In 2003, Kelly stepped into the role of Sam McCall. Sam came to town as a con artist and hustler. The character was first described as a “sexy bad girl” who liked to start trouble.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sam Has Evolved
Since her inception, Sam has softened up and become a more compassionate character. She has blossomed into a mature, confident woman, and the character has experienced significant growth.
These days, Sam has all the traits of a heroine and is a mother of two children, Danny Morgan (Zakary Risinger) and Emily “Scout” Cain. (Cosette Abinante).
However, there are glimmers of her former “bad girl” persona, and she still knows how to spice things up a bit. She works as a private investigator who sees her cases as one big puzzle to put together.
Kelly shared with Soap Opera Digest the evolution of her character, Sam, and compared Sam when she first came to town to Sam now. Kelly says,
“Sam came onto the canvas only having herself and her brother, always taking care of someone, and never being taken care of. I think the biggest evolution for her is starting from being a lonely, scared woman. She then becomes a woman who is independent but is protected by family and friends and love and relationships and loyalty. She has never had that before.”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sam’s Captivating Love Life
Sam is one half of the super couple, JaSam, or Sam McCall and Jason Morgan (Steve Burton). The two gained a substantial following and a gigantic fan base.
Ultimately, the two broke up when Sam decided she could no longer put her kids in danger due to Jason’s line of work.
Sam has another GH soulmate, Drew Cain (then played by Billy Miller), whom she was with from 2015 to 2018. Their considerable fan base affectionately coined the couple as “Dream.”
There were also rumors that Kelly and Billy Miller were dating when their characters were together on General Hospital. However, that rumor was never confirmed.
Billy Miller has since passed on. On September 15th, news of his death devastated his fellow soap actors and everyone who loved him. Kelly has not commented on Billy’s passing.
Sam is dating a good guy and cop, Dante Falconari (Dominic Zamprogna). The two of them seem to be in a perfect place.
Fans are clamoring to find out what is next for Sam and Dante. Will Dante propose to Sam, get married, and live happily ever after? Should Lulu Falconari (Emme Rylan) ever wake up from her coma, Dante would have a difficult choice.
In 2003, Kelly was recommended for a Daytime Emmy for Supporting Performer in a Drama Series for her role on the defunct soap Port Charles. In 2006, Kelly was nominated for a Daytime Emmy for Exceptional Lead Actress in a Drama Series.
