The highly-anticipated return was done in a way befitting the day. The October 31st episode started with a mystery man in a shower. It moved to a ring on a table that this mystery man put on. Then, the camera moved to show that spooky mask we saw in the weekly promo. The mystery didn’t end there.

We all know that Ava Jerome (Maura West) has been convinced she was being followed. Everyone obviously thought this was paranoia. It turns out that it wasn’t. As the episode went on, we see the mystery man at the Halloween party. He ends up seeing Ava and moves toward the elevator she just entered. He stares at her a moment as the elevator closes, a very creepy touch that makes it clear he’s the one who’s been watching her all this time.

So what is all this going to mean? There’s obviously a reason he’s retuning after all this time. We’re pretty sure that it has to do with the codicil plot. We knew someone with a big stake in this had to be the one who hired people to find it, and who has a bigger interest than Nikolas? It’s a bit surprising that Spencer Cassadine (Nicolas Bechtel) wasn’t involved, but what can you do? Making this even more obvious, this mystery man heads to the gallery. Ava’s been storing the infamous portrait there since Dev Cerci (Ashton Arbab) found it in the trash. Ava catches him looking at her desk and demands he unmask himself. To her shock, it’s her supposedly-dead ex.
