General Hospital spoilers reveal that Kirsten Storms recently posted a video on Instagram to explain her leave of absence from the show and shared how long she would be off GH.
Last week, fans noticed that Kirsten Storms was replaced in the role of Maxie Jones by Nicole Paggi, who had stepped in for her in December 2023.

Storms recently celebrated her 20th anniversary playing Maxie. She announced her temporary departure and her recent move from Los Angeles to Tennessee with her daughter, Harper Rose Barash.
She shares Harper with ex-husband, Brandon Barash, who played Johnny Zacchara on GH and Stefan DiMera on Days of Our Lives.
Soap Opera Digest reported Storms would appear on GH during the week of August 18th. Beyond that, Kirsten is taking a longer break from GH and will be off the canvas for several months.
On Instagram, she wrote,
“I’m very excited to be making Tennessee my home! I can’t wait to return to GH once Harper and I are settled into our new town. I plan on documenting as much of this new journey on social media as I can. It’s always been a dream of mine to move to a place like this; it’s hard to believe it’s really happening.”
Storm’s temporary exit has been planned since March. She spoke with executive producer Frank Valentini about her upcoming move, her leave of absence, and her desire to remain on GH.
Storms also expressed her gratitude for Valentini, network execs, and series writers for being open and understanding about her move and taking an extended break from the soap.
The actress noted that most jobs like hers wouldn’t oblige and would likely let the actor out of their contract. However, Storms is a massive fan favorite. It’s understandable why he chose to accommodate her.

Kirsten shared that she had already filmed her last episode for the year. She added, “It’s possible I will be back in December, maybe November.” The actress was also excited for fans to see the upcoming story.
She exclaimed,
“I promise you the storyline they have going on until my return to Port Charles is kind of incredible. You guys are gonna freak out, actually. Can’t wait to see the online comments about that.”
Storms is also happy that GH found a temporary replacement for her in Nicole Peggi. She explained it keeps the character relevant and busy in Port Charles.
This isn’t the first time Kirsten has taken a long break from the show. In September 2011, her struggle with endometriosis prompted her to take an extended medical leave, and Jen Lily, who later played Theresa Donovan on Days of Our Lives, filled in and played Maxie Jones until Storms reclaimed the role she originated a year later in September 2011.
Storms concluded by urging her fans to avoid online rumors that she was leaving the show for good.
“I’m taking a break and moving to Tennessee. If you don’t read about it or watch a video on it from my page, take it with a grain of salt. People like to say a whole bunch of stuff.”
