‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal a major shocker and blow to JaSam fans. Kelly Monaco has been fired from GH, and the role of Sam McCall will not be recast.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sam’s Exit Is Storyline Dictated
Soap Opera Digest said her exit is “storyline-dictated,” which makes sense since Lulu Spencer (last played by Emme Rylan) is close to waking up from her almost four-year-long coma.
Monaco has portrayed Sam since October 2003. Lindsay Hartley stepped into Sam’s shoes late last week during the funeral for the baby Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) had been carrying for Molly Lansing-Davis` (Kristen Vaganos).
Some initially speculated that Hartley would replace Monaco, but the show has decided to scrap the character altogether.
It’s a sad turn of events since there had been so much hope that Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) and Sam would find their way back to each other.
Fans have noticed the writing for Sam has been off for a couple of years. She went from being a bold, risk-taking PI to an overprotective and overbearing mother to Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn).
Many fans who were clamoring for a JaSam reunion had their hopes dashed when they realized the storyline wasn’t going in that direction at all.
Ever since Jason returned, Sam has been tough on him. She didn’t allow Jason to see Danny, and it was evident at that point that the writing for Sam wouldn’t favor the fans of the once very much-in-love duo.
Some fans warmed up to Sam’s cozy relationship with Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna). The writers appear to want to reunite Dante and Lulu, which many fans have wanted for years.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sam Is A Tried And True “Davis Girl”
The writers didn’t seem to know what to do with Sam and even started to destroy her character. It’s a shame they couldn’t come up with better for Sam so she could have remained invaluable to the canvas.
The domestic partnership between Dante and Sam was cute and even heartwarming at times, but it never reached the popularity of JaSam.
It’s also upsetting because the show could have explored a very soapy triangle between Dante, Sam, and Lulu, making viewers more invested in the outcome.
The evolution of Sam would have been more entertaining to watch if the writers had stayed true to the character. Her interaction with Jason since he returned from the dead has been weird.
Sam’s significance to the show is that she’s a “Davis girl.” She’s the daughter of Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and the sister of Kristina and Molly.
Sam also has two children: one with Jason, who is Danny, and Scout Quartermaine (Cosette Abinate), whom she had with Drew Quartermaine (Cameron Mathison).
We don’t know what these writers have in store for Sam in the coming weeks. Rumors indicate she’s set to be killed off. The termination of Sam McCall and Kelly Monaco’s departure will be a great loss for General Hospital.
When Monaco hit her 20th-year milestone at GH, she told Soap Opera Digest,
“It’s wild to me that I’ve been a part of ABC for twenty-something years and GH for twenty years. I was in my early 20s when I started! GH is such a legendary show, and I consider it my second home. Every day when I drive into the lot, I am just so honored to be a part of it.”
