‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers Dominic Zamprogna and Kelly Monaco have been screen partners for over three years, as fate brought their characters into each other’s orbit.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Dante Credits Sam with Saving His Life
Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) intervened when Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna), who was brainwashed and had PTSD, was about to shoot Peter August (Wes Ramsey) in the cemetery. She told him not to throw away his life for Peter and talked him into lowering the gun.
Sam got help, and Dante talked to Dr. Kevin Collins (Jon Lindstrom). He removed the triggers from Dante’s brain, and he eventually returned to work as an officer for the PCPD.
The two became close, and Dante credited Sam for saving his life. They became a couple and fell in love. Dante moved into Sam’s home with Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr), and the two of them became a family with Sam and her children , Scout Quartermaine (Cosette Abinante) and Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn).
The family they formed was beautiful to watch. Even though many viewers wanted Dante with Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havens) and Sam with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), they still had a fan following as “Sante.” Sam and Dante finally got engaged right before she died, so it was bittersweet for Sante fans.
During an interview in Soap Opera Digest, Zamprogna admitted he loved the “blended family aspect” of Dante and Sam’s pairing since both characters have kids from previous relationships. The two were a stable, happy couple that didn’t experience much conflict, which some viewers found mundane.
Dante and Sam may not have had what some viers would call an “exciting” relationship, but they were one of the few realistic couples on the show.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: “Sante” Was Important To Zamprogna
Monaco and Zamprogna grew close in real life, and the actor is sorry to see her go.
“The three and a half years we were together on the show were a big, important time in my life and my character’s life,”
He said.
“And I got to know Kelly in a way that I’d never known her before,”
Dominic exclaimed.
“She’s a remarkable person. She’s tough as nails and admirable in so many ways, and it’s been cool to become a friend of hers. And that won’t end.”
He adds,
“It’s just that there is still an ending because you’re not working with someone anymore.”
Zampogna says that Kelly is
“softer than her Philly exterior,”
Even though she has such a “tough girl” vibe and she’s incredibly “cool and confident.” Dominic said he loved getting to know Monaco, as she’s a very deep and complex person.
As the two of them got to know each other better, they would talk about their personal lives. Kelly’s final scenes on the show were with him. He explained to Kelly that just because this door (at GH) was closed didn’t mean there weren’t others that would be open for her. Zamporgna said he now checks on her often.
While it seems like Sante is over, Dominic has hope that Dante and Sam will one day reunite.
“It’s a soap”
He said.
“Who the heck knows what’s gonna happen!”
