‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal that GH fans were upset when Chad Duell, who has played the role of Michael Corinthos since 2010, announced he would be exiting the soap.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Actor Has Made The Most Of His Time Off
Duell shared that the door was left open for him by powers that be for him to return when he’s ready. It’s not so much that he’s leaving the show, but he’s taking a break indefinitely.
There are also currently “no plans to recast.” Duell’s iconic character, Michael, is at a burn clinic in Germany recovering from severe injuries he sustained after a fire broke out at Sonny Corinthos’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse.
Meanwhile, his wife, Willow Tait Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen), falls in love with another man, Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison), who happens to be his uncle.
He’s in the midst of a painful divorce and custody battle for his children, Amelia Corinthos (Sequoia and Serenity Mork Macko) and Wiley Corinthos (Viron Weaver)
He also has a new baby on the way, whom he conceived with his ex-girlfriend, Sasha Corbin (Sofia Mattsson), after a drunken one-night stand.
Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) vowed to take care of Sasha and the baby while he’s away. If and when Michael returns to Port Charles, he’ll be coming home to a lot of soapy drama.
Duell has made the most of his time off from GH. He’s taken steps to improve his health and feels a sense of pride for the changes he’s made in his life.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Duell’s Inspiring Message
Chad posted a message on Instagram, which was accompanied by a shirtless photo of himself, “Been on a real journey lately. Mentally and physically. Dropped nearly 20 pounds since December, but the weight that really mattered wasn’t just physical,” he shared.
“Been shedding old mindsets, self-doubt, and comfort zones, too,”
He said.
“Funny how the more you grow mentally, the more your body wants to match that energy. Or maybe it’s the other way around? Either way, they’re definitely in a serious relationship,”
Chad declared.
“Still a work in progress, but I am proud of the path I’m on. Growth isn’t always loud, but it shows up if you stay consistent.”
Duell has done well on his healing journey and has obviously been working on his personal growth. Chad has not only embraced the potential for physical and mental changes. He has also decided to spread his wings, challenge himself as an actor, and perform in a Broadway play.
Duell and fellow actor Zach Mendez will star together in the Broadway production of Yum Yum at Annapolis.
The play was written by Bruce Reisman and is set to premiere in April. The venue is the legendary EL Portal Theatre in North Hollywood in Annapolis, Maryland. Afterward, the play will move to New York City for its Off-Off Broadway debut.
The play, set in 1939, was inspired by the real-life friendship. The friendship was between American playwright Eugene O’Neill and a young sailor named Eddie, played by Duell. Eddie was hired as a handyman to restore the front porch where O’Neill wrote “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”
The show is said to be intense, as Duell and Mendez will perform 90 minutes straight without an intermission.
