General Hospital spoilers confirm that Sofia Mattsson, who has beautifully played Sasha Corbin for the past seven years, has officially exited the soap.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sasha Reunited With Robert And Holly
Mattsson started on GH in September 2018. On the July 18th episode, the character left with Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) to go to France with her daughter, Daisy (Levi Clark Coughlin).
She reunited with her father, Robert Scorpio (Tristian Rogers). “There was a good time in the storyline for Sofia to leave to pursue other opportunities in film and TV,” a representative from GH revealed to TV Insider. “But she is open to return in the future.”
As if fans couldn’t despise Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen) any more than they already do, Michael Corinthos’s loony toons ex-wife (Rory Gibson) has run Sasha out of town.
Thanks to Willow, Sasha, and Michael had to assume that whoever was targeting Daisy was trying to send a message to Michael’s mob boss father, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard).
Jason agreed to take Sasha and Daisy somewhere safe, and she chose to stay with her parents, Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) and Robert.
It wasn’t clear for a while whether Sasha would actually leave Port Charles. Now that it’s been confirmed, fans who had hoped to see a romantic reunion between Sasha and Michael are heartbroken.
That said, the final scene she shared with her on-screen dad was extremely meaningful for Mattsson. It marked the end of her GH career.
Mattsson told TV Insider, “It was special, but normally we don’t always shoot in order. But my last scenes that aired were actually filmed last,” she explained.
“And of course, they were filmed with Tristian. I really loved how sweet those scenes were,” she said.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Sasha Was Originally Supposed To Be A Short-Term Role
When the Swedish-born actress arrived on GH, her character was only supposed to last a few episodes. However, Mattsson quickly became a fan favorite.
During her time on the soap, Mattsson achieved several significant milestones. Not only professionally, but also personally.
She became a U.S. citizen and welcomed two beautiful children with her writer/producer husband, Thomas Payton. Her first child was born in July 2021, and her second in May 2023.
Mattsson landed the role of Sasha Gilmore several years after her first audition for GH. Sofia admits she wasn’t quite ready when she initially tried for a part.
When the role of Sasha was introduced, Mattsson felt ready. While only intended for a brief stint on Port Charles, Mattsson was welcomed back on several occasions until they offered her a long-term contract.
“When GH kept asking her back for more episodes, it was a shock! I kind of kept going and getting more and more relationships in town. Every time I got an episode, I was so happy and grateful to be back,” she gushed.
It’s hard to imagine Port Charles without our sweet Sasha. We hope she’ll be back eventually, and Michael, Sasha, and their kids can finally be the family they were meant to be.
For now, Mattsson shared a special message for her fans, “You guys are the best, she beamed. I’m in awe of your commitment, and I’m so honored to have gotten to experience your love and support firsthand.”
