‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Alexa Havins Breuning, who plays Lulu Spencer, recently dished to Soap Opera Digest about Nathan West (Ryan Paevy) kissing Lulu.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The Scene Was Set for a Forbidden Kiss
The scene was set up perfectly. A dangerous snowstorm. A bottle of bourbon. An innocent game, and two lost souls who have bonded significantly.
Ironically, Lulu and Nathan both woke from their respective comas to find that the world had gone on without them. Lulu was shocked when she woke up and discovered that four years had passed.
On the other hand, Nathan was presumably in a coma for seven years and woke up without his memories. The jury is out on whether Nathan has a massive secret. Some aren’t even convinced this man is really Nathan!
The soap has been wisely building up to the moment that Nathan and Lulu admitted their mutual attraction. Nathan sweetly told Lulu that there was “nothing more he wanted than to be the man you see me as.”
However, there is the small issue of Lulu’s BFF, Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms), who is also Nathan’s wife and someone he can’t remember.
Maxie will wake up to find that the man she was madly in love with and married, the man she shares a child with, is really alive.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Did Lulu Violate “Girl Code” with Nathan?
Additionally, Nathan appears to be falling for Lulu. A very soapy storyline is about to go down, and the fans couldn’t be more divided about the nature of “girl code” and what is or isn’t acceptable.
Lulu believes that Maxie would “kill her” if she ever found out about the kiss. Meanwhile, Nathan doesn’t want to “live in a memory.”
Alexa Havins and Ryan Paevy nailed the scenes to juicy forbidden perfection. Havins told SOD that she saw the breadcrumbs the soap was leaving well before the audience did.
Havins knew, shortly after Paevy reprised his role as Nathan, that Lulu would be the one to find him and that the two characters would end up in a romantic entanglement.
“My soap eyes saw the easter egg. I went, oh, surprise, Lulu of all people finds the car crash! I went, Ding! Okay, he’s going to be my new love interest!”
Havins was 100 percent correct. She explained,
“This is a relationship that never would have happened if Maxie were in Port Charles.”
The actress continued,
“It reminds me of those stories you read about where the spouse dies, and the wife ends up marrying his best friend, because they’re there.”
She added,
“And here was Lulu, and here was Nathan, and they’re grieving because of Maxie. Lulu knows she might never come back, ever.”
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Lulu Wants to Shut the Door and Act Like It Never Happened-But Can She?
The close connection between Lulu and Nathan is evident. They started off trying to help each other with their respective kids.
Their relationship, as Havins put it, “blossomed unexpectedly.” Still, Lulu is determined not to “go there” because she can’t do that to Maxie.
Havins is playing this story like Lulu is trying to shut the door but still fighting her feelings. The actress is happy to see that the script was written to show that Lulu “sobered up quickly,” once she realized she was, as they say, violating girl code.
Havins also teased,
“But you can say one thing, and your heart feels something else. And the next time they see each other after the kiss, it was really fun to play the longing as she’s trying to stay true to her resolve of, ‘No, this isn’t happening again.”
The actress also inquisitively offered,
“Can you just shut off your feelings? Unfortunately, no, because that’s not how we’re wired as human beings.”
She wondered whether Lulu would be able to control her emotions,
“Can she stop this runaway train?”
Havins also recognized that Lulu didn’t set out to have feelings for her BFF’s husband,
“Sometimes you don’t know that an emotional connection is building until it hits you in the face!”
Maxie is set to wake up from her coma on Thursday, February 12th. It’s going to get very complicated for Maxie, Nathan, and Lulu, very fast. Lulu denying her own feelings for Nathan is going to be an uphill battle from here on out.
