‘General Hospital’ spoilers share that Adrian Anchondo, who played Marco Rios on GH, recently spoke with TV Insider on his character’s tragic twist of fate.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Marco’s Redemption Cost Him His Life
Marco was a complex and often infuriating character, but his love for Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) and his final act of helping Britt Westbourne (Kelly Theibaud) finally gave him the redemption he needed.
Sadly, it was too late. Marco was brutally stabbed by Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) after resident tattle-tale, Pascal (Marc Forget), told Cullum that some of Britt’s medicine was missing from Wyndemere.
Britt desperately needs this medicine for her Huntington’s. She had to depend on Cullum and Jenz Sidwell (Carlo Rota) for her life-sustaining drugs.
It became painfully obvious that Marco was going to die when Lucas Jones (Van Hansis) was running around telling anyone who would listen that Marco was the love of his life.
Anytime a soap does that, it generally means that the character is a goner. Hey, at least Anchondo got to his one-year milestone playing Marco before his character was killed off.
Anchondo first arrived on GH in March 2025. Marco and Lucas had already met and started up a romance during a trip to Miami, where Lucas was on a medical conference. Marco soon moved to Port Charles, where the two men continued to get to know each other.
The actor also saw Marco’s death coming. Anchondo maintains a positive attitude about his work on the soap.
“I have no control, and I can’t take it personally. It’s not really about me. It’s about the story, and the story is more important than any one actor.”
That is not to say that his final episode wasn’t emotional. Tears were flowing during Lucas and Sidwell’s goodbye scenes at the hospital.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Anchondo Felt Like GH Was a Gift
That emotion came from the real-life bonds he formed with his GH castmates. Anchondo reflected,
“He had a short journey, but it was filled with love. It was a beautiful way to end, Marco. He got to go out a hero.”
Anchondo also spoke highly of Kelly Theibaud, who plays Britt. He commented,
“The biggest surprise and the most joy I got was working with Kelly. She just lights up the set whenever she’s there.”
The actor also thanked executive producer Frank Valentini and Mark Teschner for “Taking a chance on me and bringing such a unique character to daytime, especially a queer and Latino character during this time. It just felt so important to be seen and represented.”
Anchondo admitted he would have spent many happy years working on GH, but at the same time, he felt like he was “given a gift.” Professionally, Anchondo’s time on GH felt meaningful and significant to him.
He added,
“I got to work with daytime legends, and it was so great to be in scenes with them. I felt like I was part of a big family.”
While Marco and Lucas were robbed of their happy ending, Anchondo is getting his in real life. He’s dating Days of Our Lives actor Colton Little, who plays Andrew Donovan. Anchondo shared,
“We started dating, and it’s been wonderful. I feel like I got to have a happy ending in some ways.”
We wish Adrian Anchondo the best of luck on his next endeavor. Marco may be gone, but his death will have major repercussions in Port Charles for a long time.
