General Hospital Recap Wednesday, May 1: Port Charles Says Final Goodbye to Oscar Nero, Teen Passes Away After Losing Battle To Cancer

General Hospital recap for Wednesday, May 1 indicates that the end is here on General Hospital as the writers send Oscar off with a massive troll job that would make Annie Wilkes lose her you-know-what. Ghosts of the past

The show’s history plays a big part here, as Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) comes across Monica Quatermaine (Leslie Charleson) in the mausoleum. She’s looking at the markers, and imagines the conversations that must be going on there. Ned agrees that it must be quite the gathering. She thinks it’s going to be a hell of a reunion when it’s her time.

    General Hospital Spoilers: Planning Ahead

Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) is still stressing about how to handle things with Josslyn Jacks (Eden McCoy) when Oscar Nero (Garren Stitt) goes, but Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Bernard) doesn’t think she’s got anything to worry about there, because she’s given a good example. He’s shown up by surprise to accompany her because there’s more testing and results on the horizon for her and baby, and he thinks he should be there.

GH Spoilers: The end is here

And now we get to the really evil, troll-worthy part of the episode. Kim Nero (Tamara Braun) kisses both Joss and Oscar goodnight before leaving the room, where Joss has fallen asleep reading a book to him. She’d kept going, despite the fact Oscar was already sleeping. Kim goes downstairs, but doesn’t stray from the staircase, as she thinks the couch is too far away from Oscar. She and Drew Cain (Billy Miller) talk about Oscar, where Drew wishes for a little magic for his son. She also fields a phone call from Julian Jerome (William deVry), who just wanted to check in on her and let her know he’s here for whatever she needs.

Terry Randolph (Cassandra James) is back at GH stressing about all the tests Oscar had and wondering if there’s something she missed somehow, any sliver of hope she can give them. Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) thinks she’s been really good to him, and has done all she possibly can.

Then, things take a massively horrible turn. Like, the kind where we think they’re drinking tea with Satan in the writers’ room. Timed perfectly with Drew’s wish for magic, a figure representing Lila Quartermaine (Anna Lee) appears and touches Oscar on the chest. Like the magic Drew wished for, Oscar is suddenly awake, alert, and feeling he’s going to be okay. He gets dragged to GH to run some more tests, where Terry declares that his tumor shrunk to almost nothing and is now benign. Everyone is totally thrilled and in a party kind of mood, so they make their way over to Julian’s place.

While there, things get weird. In between all the celebration, plans for the future, and an apology from Cameron Webber (William Lipton) for not being around more during Oscar’s illness, Oscar sees Lila there. He even sees visions of Sonny and Carly with a new baby, his mom engaged, and Joss in graduation clothing walking off hand-in-hand with another guy. Joss approaches him and Oscar says he has to go home now. Joss doesn’t seem to get it, as she says they had seeing the stars on their calendar and it’s too early for that. Oscar says it’s later than she thinks and says that he’s had everyone in limbo. He’s ready to go home. Lila and Edward Quartermaine (John Ingle) are watching as he kisses her and walks off.

But alas, this was all a cruel, horrible twist that was representing a final happy day fantasy of Oscar’s as he is dying, as well as his fears and hopes for the futures of his nearest and dearest. He finally accepts his fate and leaves his body, joining Lila and Edward in the afterlife after a last kiss of Joss’ cheek. Excuse us while we fight the urge to write nasty letters to the writing staff for this emotional trauma.
