While we were all following the case of the missing Gabby Petito, there were all kinds of rumors that her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie was the only one who knew where she was and what happened to her. There were a lot of red flags that even police officers in Utah ignored about their relationship and the domestic violence in it. Some of Brian’s notebooks were found with his remains and we were all shocked to hear about what was released to the public this past week.

This past week the handwritten confessions of Laundrie were revealed to the public. Now there are plenty of experts who have started to really weigh in on what he wrote in his notebooks. He wrote that Gabby was “violenting shaking” and “freezing cold” and he claimed that she had some injuries before he decided to kill her.

With all of the research going into his notebook confessions, it appears that he also wrote out eight pages of notes on the day before he decided to shoot and kill himself. On one of these pages, he wrote that he “thought it was merciful, that it is what she wanted” and that is why he “ended her life.”
In one part of the notebook, he wrote about how they were trying to cross a stream and he heard her fall in. He wrote, “I couldn’t find her for a moment, shouted her name. I found her breathing heavily gasping my name, she was freezing cold. When I pulled Gabby out of the water she couldn’t tell me what hurt. She had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger. Her feet hurt, her wrist hurt, but she was freezing, shaking violently while carrying her she continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain. I don’t know the extent of Gabby’s injuries. Only that she was in extreme pain.”
Many experts who have started to analyze these pages have pointed out that even if he didn’t know what her injuries were, it did not give him the right to take her life. She could have easily been taken to the hospital or the couple could have waited for park rangers or other hikers to help them out.
This was not an “unexpected tragedy” the way he describes it. She was not asking for her life to be over, she just wanted someone or something to ease the pain since they were traveling on foot when she fell.
One criminal profiler, John Kelly, pointed out, “He tiptoed around the confession. He wanted to serve it up as a mercy killing. That’s the thing that is bugging me more than anything.”
