‘Days of Our Lives’ (DOOL) Spoilers is asking if any of you remember 1980’s DOOL story lines, you’ll remember that Shane Donovan (Charles Shaughnessy) featured prominently in a lot of them. He, Roman Brady (Wayne Northrup), John Black (Drake Hogestyn), and Bo Brady (Peter Reckells) were always in sort of what I still think of as a sort of ‘rambo squad’, and they all had one common enemy and that was Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo).

Since I was rather young at the time the last time I remember seeing Shane was in the mid-80s when he was thought to be dead and he was still with Kimberly Brady (Patsy Pease). I did not realize that Shane was very much alive and he had been on DOOL a lot of times over the years, including as late as 2016! What I also didn’t realize was that Eve Donovan was his daughter! So with all that information in mind, let’s just think about how our beloved Brit could return to Salem in 2019. (or 2020, we’re not picky!)
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Eve needs a shoulder to cry on
As we all know, Eve Donovan (Kassie DePaiva) has been through a lot lately. She single handedly engineered Jack Deveraux’s political campaign (heck, one could argue his entire poltical career!), and then she married the guy but she just couldn’t stand up to the shadow of Jennifer Horton (Melissa Reeves), all of this on the tail end of losing her daughter, Paige Larson (True O’Brien). Which, by the way, she is still not okay from. Argue all you want but the scars of losing Paige are still as fresh as the day they happened and it’s pretty obvious that Eve is still suffering from it.

Eve doesn’t seem to have too many friends. At last count she had Claire Brady (Olivia Rose Keegan)Â but that was arguably because Eve was enabling her erratic behavior. However there is one person on the Salem-scape that has always had a misplaced faith in Eve, and that is her Father, Shane Donovan. When Eve was first introduced as a character back in the 80’s, she met her Father by pretending to be the child of his alleged late wife, Emma Donovan (Jane Windsor). However as it turned out she was actually the child of career prostitute Gabrielle Pascal (Karen Moncrieff) nevertheless, he took Eve in, even though as it turns out she was a very troubled girl.
And we know that as an adult she’s had her fair share of drama and now that she’s coming up on the heels of her divorce from Jack Deveraux she probably needs some emotional support and since her Mom is nowhere to be found, it looks like Shane would be the most obvious choice for emotional support would be her Father. Even so, I’m pretty sure that everything that has happened to Eve since 2016 would be a lot for Shane to process and I’m not sure that he would automatically be on Eve’s side but I am sure that with enough persuasion he could eventually get there.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Could Princess Gina be the reason Shane returns?
As I said earlier, back in the day, Roman, John, Bo, and Shane were all sort of involved in this sort of Rambo squad type deal. A lot of their story lines intermingled. Specifically one in which this character called The Dragon, who was actually Shane’s friend, the Duke of Earl, was out to kill Bo and Hope. Since Princess Gina was involved with the John Black story line, who’s to say that Shane couldn’t somehow be involved with the resurrection of the nefarious royal? Perhaps Shane could come back to warn Roman and John of Dr. Rolf’s plan, or what he knows about it at least. After all, they all had one common enemy in the past and that was Stefano. Stefano’s gone, but his accomplices are still alive and well and running around and if Shane still has his ear to the ground, then chances are he would have heard something.
Now with Princess Gina being resurrected, if the mission was big enough then there might be reason enough to temporarily resurrect the rambo squad (at least the remaining members) and try to stop Princess Gine and maybe Dr. Rolf by extension or whoever is the power behind Dr. Rolf. One could argue that Kristen DiMera (Stacey Haiduk) has already been brought to justice but what if there’s an even bigger puppet master behind the scenes? Someone new that the Salmites haven’t even met yet. It’s about time Salem had a new crime boss. And it would be interesting if Shane had all the info.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Switching sides?
Alternately, what if Shane Donovan was Salem’s new crime boss? What if, for whatever reason Shane had switched sides from former ISA Agent to criminal mastermind and he was back in town to rustle up some action? After all, with heir to the DiMera Enterprises throne, Stefan DiMera (Brandon Barash) dead, I’m sure the rest of the underworld sharks smell blood in the proverbial water and are just itching to stake their own claim in Salem’s empty waters. Shane knows the town pretty well so if he did decide to come back and be a crime boss then he could slip right back in undetected. He would have enough people that knew him and believed in him so that they wouldn’t automatically suspect him. Or, if it wasn’t Shane, maybe it could be his brother, Andrew.
So far there doesn’t look like there are any plans to bring back Shane, but with all the older characters making appearances, there’s always a chance. This is just speculation, for actual updates on what’s going to happen on DOOL, we’ll just have to stay tuned!!!
