Dave Chappelle has revealed that he spoke with the man who charged the stage and attacked him at the Hollywood Bowl, and found out just why in the world he would do that. Dave says he convinced security Tuesday night to let him speak to Isaiah Lee before he was taken away saying, “I needed to talk to him.”

Chappelle says Lee told him this was all about getting attention for his grandmother who said had been forced out of her neighborhood because of gentrification.

While at the Comedy Store, Chris Rock joined Dave on stage and joked about being attacked while on stage. At one point Dave said, “At least you got smacked by someone of repute. I got smacked by a homeless guy with leaves in his hair!” Chris’s response … “I got smacked by the softest n**** that ever rapped.”

As we reported before, for some reason, the L.A. County D.A rejected Lee’s case as a felony and kicked it to the City Attorney for misdemeanors. Lee has been charged with 4 crimes.

We’re still not sure how this was supposed to raise attention for his grandmother, and it wouldn’t make much sense to tackle a comedian onstage for your family, but, as Dave said, he appeared to be a ‘homeless guy with leaves in his hair.’ The story about his grandmother was probably just an excuse and a way to try to get Dave to feel sorry for him.

The big question on everyone’s mind lately has been… Did Will Smith slapping Chris Rock on stage set a precedent for people attacking comedians? While there doesn’t seem to be much in common with the two stories, it is odd that this has happened so soon after the other incident. Now, comedy clubs have been beefing up their security.

What do you think? Are you a fan of Dave Chappelle and why do you really think Lee charged him on stage? Let us know in the comments below.
