You’ve probably heard that wide receiver Calvin Ridley will be missing all of the upcoming season for making a few bets on his team. Everyone has basically said the same thing, that it seems a bit excessive, and now Cowboys legend Troy Aikman has thrown his hat into the ring.

When speaking to TMZ Sports, Aikman said that a one-year ban on Ridley “seems like an awful lot.”

In total, Ridley’s bets only came to about $1,500 and while he reportedly bet on the Falcons, he was said to have never bet against his own team. Still, the NFL barred the receiver for all 17 games in the next season.

When asked about the length of the suspension, Aikman said that the league should have gone a bit softer and at least a bit shorter.

“On the one hand, you have the league encouraging everybody to gamble,” Aikman said, “and yet, here Calvin Ridley is suspended for an entire season. When you look at it against some of the other suspensions, I would agree that it seems like an awful lot.”

Ridley totaled 3,342 receiving yards in his first 49 games in the NFL and has taken the ban in stride, even joking about it a lot on Twitter, saying “Just gone be more healthy when I come back.”

Many have compared Ridley to the likes of Pete Rose who was banned from the MLB for betting. As far as suspensions go, it is pretty hefty and people in the NFL have beaten women and received less of a suspension. Driving us to the answer that the NFL obviously and clearly cares more about their revenue than actual assaults from their players. Though, we already knew that.

What do you think? Did Ridley get too big of a suspension for his betting and do you agree with Aikman? Let us know in the comments below.
