Netflix‘s ‘Cheer’ star Jerry Harris has been sentenced to 12 years behind bars in his child pornography case. He was in court for sentencing on Wednesday, where friends and supporters read statements about the disgraced actors character. After the hearing, the judge announced a 12-year sentence.

Harris has also been ordered to pay $35,000 to AVAA crime victims fund, along with court-supervised release after imprisonment. He was reportedly facing up to 50 years behind bars after pleading guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography as well as one count of traveling with the intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct.

The ‘Cheer’ star had been under investigation by the FBI going back to 2019. There were claims he was soliciting sex from minors at cheer competitions, and coercing teen boys to send inappropriate photos. He was then arrested in September of the following year. The Netflix series even explored his arrest in their second season.

Jerry’s attorney Todd S. Pugh released a statement to TMZ, “Jeremiah “Jerry” Harris is exceedingly grateful for Judge Shah’s recognition of his humanity, worthiness, rehabilitative potential. While Jerry has a difficult road ahead of him, his uncompromising spirit and strength has carried him through challenging times before. He has nothing but empathy and remorse for the people he has harmed and hopes that [the] proceeding provided them some peace.”

While he was in court yesterday, Jerry addressed the trauma he caused his victims, “I am ashamed as I know that I took advantage of your youth and weakness. I was wrong and selfish. I caused you harm and I do not blame anyone. I regret my decisions and I am deeply sorry.”

He has been denied bond while awaiting trial as the prosecutors successfully argued Harris might prey on minors if released on bond, reverting back to the same behavior.

What do you think? Is 12 years long enough and do you think he will be rehabilitated? Let us know in the comments below.
