‘Cheer’ star, Jerry Harris shocked the world when, only months after becoming a massive Netflix star, he was arrested for child pornography, soliciting minors for sex, and traveling across state lines with the intent to engage in illicit sexual contact with a minor.
The once fan favorite, lauded for his positivity and being such a team player has now had his day in court and has pled guilty to two of his charges.
On Thursday the 22-year-old told the court: “Yes, it’s true, Judge. Yes, I am [guilty], Judge.”
‘Cheer’ Star Jerry Harris Pleads Guilty to Sexual Misconduct- Could Get 20 Years
The government recommended 50 years in jail for the cheerleader who, after pleading not guilty on all seven charges against him in December, took a plea deal, professing his guilt so there would be a reduction in sentence. Harris is now looking at doing anywhere between 5 and 20 years behind bars.
The judge in the case is yet to make a final decision in terms of sentencing– this won’t happen until June 2022.
Before changing his plea, Harris’ legal team had made a statement after his arrest in September 2020, saying, “We categorically dispute the claims made against Jerry Harris, which are alleged to have occurred when he was a teenager. We are confident that when the investigation is completed the true facts will be revealed.”
The twin brothers who made the claims against Harris bravely appeared on the second season of Cheer, along with their mother, to detail their side of the story.
Harris’ ex-teammates and coach, Monica Aldama also shared their reactions on camera. All were distraught over their hype man’s misconduct scandal.
“I can’t even wrap my head around how I should feel,” Aldama admitted after learning about the arrest while on the Dancing With the Stars set. “The [DWTS] executive producer came up to me and showed me her phone and asked me if I had seen the headline in the news that day. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I was already terrified.”
Probably not as terrified as the 13-year-old children Harris solicited sexual favors from.
