CBS ‘The Young and the Restless’ (Y&R) spoilers finds that star Eric Braeden (Victor Newman) has some very interesting thing to say about the current state of his soap and some of the things that might be going on behind the scenes. In fact, some Y&R fans say that Eric might be hinting that he doesn’t want the writing team – and in particular head writer Josh Griffith – to change a thing as far as all of the drama in Genoa City. Here’s what he has to say.

Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Eric says that when it comes to daytime television, it’s best to keep things the way they are. In fact, the longtime actor says that the best formula for soaps is to simply make a great show and to tell a great story.

Eric told the publication in a new interview, “I’ll give you the thoughts very simply. Bill Bell allowed no one to come in and interfere with what he did. No one. He was the man, and the results were wonderful. He was the driving force behind this. The driving conflict at Y&R is the Newmans versus the Abbotts, so don’t forget about it. It doesn’t happen very often that you have a confluence of the appropriate writer, the appropriate actors. Don’t forget about that! Don’t ignore it. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel.”

Of course, it didn’t take very long for Eric’s fans and critics to respond to his comments, with some agreeing with him and others sharing their different opinions. Some left comments such as, “I think Eric Braeden is referring to network interference or Sony interference. You have bean counters and corporate execs influencing content way too much,” along with, “He continues to open his mouth and I just… don’t buy it. I feel like he likes a regime if it benefits him, and once it does not, then he smack talks it. Of course, he loves the current regime because he openly talks to the executive producer and head writer.”

Another fan wrote, “I don’t know in this case, though. Lauding the show’s history and Bill Bell’s simple formula while classic episodes are airing is a pretty direct (if implicit) shot across the bow of modern regimes, including the current one.”
