The four families of Kayleee Goncalves, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, and Madison Morgan can find a little bit of peace knowing that there has been a suspect arrested in the brutal slayings of the four college students. Bryan Christopher Kohberger was arrested in Pennsylvania after being tracked there to his parents’ house all thanks to a tiny bit of DNA that was left on the button snap of the kbar knife sheath used in the murders.
DNA was how this crime was broken wide open. What we know so far is that Kohberger was majoring in criminology at a neighboring college and had, as recently as this past summer, made a post on Reddit asking about the motivation behind people who commit crimes.
Bryan Christopher Kohberger Arrested For Idaho Student Murders, Still No Motive Obtained
For someone who was so knowledgeable about criminals, it would seem that he made some pretty glaring mistakes, but considering how much he studied criminals, maybe he meant to get caught. So far, no one knows his motive for breaking into the house in Moscow, Idaho that night.
The only things we do know is that he was proven by DNA evidence to be there at the scene of the crime and that he waived his right to extradition, something that he was “surprised” by. He was a TA at Washington State University and even though the murder had been a hot button topic in class among the students, Kohberger had not said one word about what he thought the motives behind the killings might be.
One of the surviving roommates ran into him that night and recounted her experience. She said that she heard what sounded like one of the roommates playing with her dog in one of the bedrooms (a dog that was later found to be completely unharmed in an odd twist of fate) and then she heard what sounded like crying coming from one of the bedrooms and a male voice saying that they were there to “help”.
She said that she thought she heard one of the victims say, “There’s someone here.” at some point, before opening her door a third and final time to see Kohberger walking toward her, a man clad all in black with a mask over his face and “bushy eyebrows”.
It’s been speculated that Kohberger could have been stalking one of the victims, since his phone had pinged in the area prior to the murders, but it is unclear which one or why he would be stalking any one of them. Some of the girls were servers at local Resteraunts and Kohberger had a history of making employees uncomfortable, could this have contributed to the murders in any way? We don’t know yet, we don’t really know anything about Kohberger’s side of the story, as screwed up as that may be. Stay tuned!!!
