Unfortunately, this won’t be the last time you’ll be seeing Chris and Roberta Laundrie’s names in the headlines. There’s a new report that suggests Brian Laundrie’s parents might face potential legal consequences in the disappearance of their son and the certain circumstances surrounding his remains.
After Brian’s notebook and backpack were found at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park in North Port, Florida, it was later discovered that the human remains found there belonged to the missing fugitive, according to dental records. Famed criminal defense lawyer Mark Geragos now says that Brian’s family could face legal action.
Brian Laundrie’s Parents Might Face Potential Legal Consequences
Brian’s remains were discovered only a day after Chris and Roberta Laundrie decided to help authorities search for him, despite the fact that they were doing so for well over a month.
“Based on what we know so far… the only exposure, potential liability, would be either after the federal warrant was issued or if there was some assistance given while he was a fugitive,” Geragos told Fox News, meaning Laundrie’s parents would likely only be accused of a crime for actions committed after the U.S. District Court of Wyoming issued a federal arrest warrant for their son.
Fox News says Brian Laundrie’s items were found just hours after his own parents, Chris and Roberta, were at the Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park. Laundrie reportedly disappeared after going hiking in the area last month.
Brian’s fiance Gabby Petito was reported missing and found dead after she and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie embarked on a country-wide road trip this past summer. However, Laundrie returned home to Florida on September 1st without his girlfriend, and 10 days before her mother reported her missing. Her body was found on September 19 in Wyoming’s Grand Teton National Park. The coroner said DNA samples were taken by law enforcement.
