Special Agent in Charge Michael McPherson with the FBI Tampa confirmed several items of interest had been found in an area that was previously underwater. On Thursday, the FBI has confirmed that the human remains that were found near a preserve in Florida are those of Gabby Petito’s fiance, Brian Laundrie. The FBI said dental records confirmed the identification. Here’s what you need to know.
According to reports, local authorities confirmed that the skeletal remains found during the month-long search for Brian Laundrie near the Carlton Reserve were his. “They are human remains, no doubt there. I would say that the remains were consistent with one individual, you know skeletal remains,” North Port Police spokesperson Josh Taylor told the press.
Critics Believe Chris And Roberta Laundrie Have Some Explaining To Do After Brian Laundrie’s Backpack And Notebook Were Found
“As you’re aware, the FBI and the North Port Police Department, and our state and local law enforcement partners, have been searching the area of the Carlton Reserve for Brian Laundrie – a person of interest in the murder of Gabby Petito,” McPherson said.
“Earlier today, investigators found what appears to be human remains, along with personal items such as a backpack and notebook belonging to Brian Laundrie.”
Of course, it didn’t take very long for critics to weigh in on the matter, with a lot of them wondering why Chris and Roberta Laundrie have been so quiet up until this point.
Some comments have included, “Odd how the parents knew the general area to look. Why wasn’t this shared early on? Something is not adding up with the parents. And the law needs to dig it out of the Laundries back pocket,” along with, “Parents leave the house and within hours drive right to the spot and find evidence … Law Enforcement needs to hire them or arrest them. Something does not sound right. We need to find more body parts and confirm them with DNA.”
Another critic wrote, “The article sounds like the police let Laundrie’s parents search the park by themselves and they found a dead body with their son’s belongings by it rather quickly. But since they were unaccompanied, they could have planted their son’s notebook by the body when they found it. Probably they just found his body by accident, but the way the police conducted the investigation it is now unclear if they tampered with the scene or not.”
