‘Beyond the Gates’ (BTG) spoilers reveal that the groundbreaking new soap started with a bang. The first episode introduced the affluent Dupree family, which is the core of the new sudser.
The Duprees aren’t the only reason you should tune in and check out BTG. We present five exciting reasons for you to watch BTG.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: It Features REAL Music
Right out of the gate (pun intended), BTG hooked viewers with the upbeat classic R&B song, “Best of My Love” by the Emotions as Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson (Daphnee Duplaix) cruised through the prominent entrance of Fairmount Crest. The song was the perfect way to invite viewers to be a part of the show’s historic beginning.
It’s rare these days that soaps play popular music, which is why it’s refreshing that real music will be featured on BTG. In addition, Tamara Tunie, who plays Anita Dupree, has a degree in musical theater from Carnegie Mellon and is one of a few cast members who will be heard singing on the soap.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: You Get To See A Soap From It’s Inception
Another rarity is that the viewer gets to see a soap from its inception. Long-time fans of daytime drama may have experienced seeing the start of a daytime drama, but younger viewers never had that opportunity.
Watching a series from the beginning helps to establish character development, see how each major arc unfolds, and allow the audience to create a stronger connection with the characters and the story. It gives fans the ability to embark on a journey.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: Michele Val Jean
BTG creator Michele Val Jean, who wrote for the first predominantly African American soap, Generations, is an expert storyteller. She was head writer for sudsy powerhouses like General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful. Her ability to craft engaging stories is well-documented, which means that BTG is in skillful hands.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: Juicy Storylines

In the first episode, we met Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley), who currently has a very juicy and intriguing story. She was once a model but abandoned her career to be with the man she loved, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett). They were married for thirty-five years and shared two daughters, but Bill had an affair with her daughter’s former best friend, Hayley Lawson (Marquita Goings), creating a significant scandal among the characters.
Hayley and Bill are now engaged, and we witnessed a run-in between the two ladies, foreshadowing what’s to come. Dani told Hayley off and slapped her. Each member of the Dupree clan shot Hayley a disapproving look before leaving the country club.
The drama encompassing BTG includes plenty of steamy romance, back-stabbing, soapy catfights, and buried family secrets revealed. BTG promises to have all the delicious campiness of Dynasty combined with the African American representation that was the hallmark of Generations.
‘Beyond The Gates’ Spoilers: BTG IS Making History
As mentioned earlier, Beyond the Gates isn’t the first daytime drama with a predominantly African American cast. Generations premiered in March 1989 and went off the air in January 1991. Apparently, the world wasn’t ready for what Generations had to offer.
Now, Beyond the Gates is in a much better position to succeed. It has the plum time slot once held by the beloved now defunct soap, As the World Turns. Generations had to compete against the second half of The Young and the Restless.
Now, Beyond the Gates is in the line-up. It’s after The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful, which means it has every chance to succeed. BTG is also the first new soap since Passions premiered in 1999. It’s also a throwback to an era when soaps thrived.
