Even if you’re not a fan of the NFL or watch Football, you’ve probably heard of quarterback Alex Smith and his long road to recovery. Back in 2018, Smith had his leg broken during a game against the Houston Texans, and it looked like the end of his career would follow along with it.
However, over the course of a grueling two-year recovery, Smith went from a man with a broken leg, 17 surgeries, and an infection that nearly took his life to return to the field in 2020. Not only did he play football again, but he led the Washington Football team to a division title.
The story is nothing short of inspirational, and Smith (with much appreciation by the fanbase) won The Comeback Player of the Year award. It’s an emotional story and one that will be told for years to come.
The NFL posted a reaction video as Smith watched a Tribute Video dedicated to him. Get the tissues, because the waterworks are coming. Check out the video below.

It’s a touching video and tribute to a man who achieved the impossible. NFL superstars and legends joined in to congratulate Smith and tell him what an inspiration he was, but nothing was more wholesome than seeing Smith’s smile whenever his family and wife were in the video.
I look forward to seeing what the future has for Alex Smith and this was a historic event not just for him, but for the NFL. If you’re not an Alex Smith fan after what he’s accomplished, I’m not sure what will make you a fan.
Congratulations to Smith on The Comeback Player of the Year award, congratulations on your loving wife and family, and congratulations on stepping toe to toe with adversity and coming out the victor. We hope to see you win the NFC East again next season.
