NFL News find that Matthew Stafford has spent his entire career in Detroit trying to rebuild a failing Lions franchise. He’s been the heart of the team and has played with passion and determination throughout his who career, however, his only true talent was Calvin Johnson and he retired in 2016 at the height of his career.
This blockbuster trade could make perfect use of Stafford’s arm and abilities to try to get the Rams back to the Super Bowl.
The Lions sent Stafford to the Rams in exchange for the Ram’s first-round picks 2022 and 2023, a third-round pick in 2021, and quarterback Jared Goff.
That is a lot to give up for a 32-year-old quarterback and it seems like the Rams don’t expect to draft a first-round quarterback until 2024 unless they make another trade for a first-rounder. However, I think Stafford has some longevity to him and has several good years left in him.
NFL News: Matthew Stafford TRADED To The L.A. Rams! – Jared Goff Headed To Detroit
Stafford will leave Detroit as the Lion’s all-time leader in completions (3,898), passing yards (45,109), passing touchdowns (282), and quarterback wins (74). He also took the franchise to three playoff appearances though they failed to win a single one.
The Rams are looking to add him to a big-name roster with the league’s best defense. This makes for a scary roster and one that the NFC West should keep an eye on. I wouldn’t want to be a Seahawks, Niners, or Cardinals fan right now.
As for Goff, this will truly be a test of his talent. He struggled in 2019 and most of 2020, leaving much to be desired. Now, just two seasons since his team went to the Super Bowl, he finds himself on another team and one that will need some serious work to turn around. Will Goff be the answer to the Lions or will he fade into history now?
