Someone has the sads over Andrew Cuomo’s decision to resign as the Governor of the state of New York. Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin says it’s an absolute travesty that Cuomo has stepped down, calling this a “tragic day.” Here’s what you need to know.

After the news broke of Cuomo’s resignation, Baldwin tweeted his support for the Governor. The actor wrote, “Regardless of what you think of Cuomo, this is a tragic day. Party politics in this country draw ambitious but ultimately isolated, even socially maladjusted men and women who, given the current cancel culture, will likely have their shortcomings exposed and magnified.”

Cuomo announced he will resign following a scathing report from the state’s attorney general concluding the third-term Democrat sexually harassed 11 women, and in one instance, sought to retaliate against one of his accusers who went public with her allegations.

“Wasting energy on distractions is the last thing that state government should be doing, and I cannot be the cause of that,” Cuomo said.

“I think that, given the circumstances, the best way I can help now is if I step aside and let government get back to governing,” he added.

Meanwhile, Kathy Hochul, New York’s lieutenant governor, will become the first woman ever to lead the state of New York. She will assume the governorship after Andrew Cuomo steps aside in two weeks amid a sexual harassment scandal.

According to NBC News, Hochul has not spoken to Cuomo since February, according to a recent profile in The New York Times, and last week she called the allegations against him by 11 women “repulsive and unlawful.”
