ABC ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers reveal we kicked off Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Corinthos (Laura Wright) week off on June 15th. This episode brought some great, engaging moments. However, it was also a big disappointment. Let’s take a look at what happened and why it fell flat.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Hostage situation
So, the first episode of this journey through Sonny and Carly’s relationship was one that people wanted. It was the Metro Court hostage situation, one we’re not really familiar with. We have to read more about it to understand how it started who was holding the hostages. But this episode showed us why fans were looking for this one. Port Charles residents we knew and didn’t know were held at gunpoint, and Robin Scorpio (Kimberly McCullough) had been shot. While several people were busy trying to save her life, other had problems of their own.
For example, Sonny was locked up in a room upstairs and unable to do much to help his wife and friends. At GH, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was also in trouble. She was desperate to get answers about the situation so they can free Sam McCall (Kelly Monacho) and others from the hands of the bad guys. This led to a whole other bit of drama. So, what did we love? What bugged?
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: What we liked
The scenes in the Metro Court were great. Watching Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst), Emily Quartermaine (Natalia Livingston), and Carly trying to save Robin’s life was a great moment. The tension had us engaged, even though we knew Robin lives. It also creeped us out to see the captors basically playing with her life like they did. ‘General Hospital’ spoilers indicate they refused to let Liz help, even though she said she’s a surgical nurse. Then, they gave them a time limit, even knowing Robin still needed to be sewn up. He particularly seemed to play with Carly, forcing her to do that part on her own, despite a lack of experience.
Also, we loved seeing a different Lulu Spencer (Julie Marie Berman) in action. Honestly, we liked her and wish they’d play more episodes with her in them. However, this shows us the big problem with this choice.
ABC ‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: The problem
The episode was chosen because it had a huge moment between Sonny and Carly. During the crisis, Carly was brought up to the room they locked Sonny in. Once they were alone, Sonny praised Carly’s actions so far and kept her calm and focused as she picked the lock on the handcuffs binding Sonny. He also made a declaration of love and apologized for tricking her previously. However, this amounted to about five minutes of the episode, maybe ten. It seems like a weak pick to us.
Starting tomorrow, we jump forward quite a few years. The fact they played this episode at all shows they can air stuff from 2007, as well as the other episodes. Starting an arc fans wanted partway into it, then giving it only one episode seems pointless to us. They honestly should have played the whole thing and let fans enjoy a tense ride. It would have been a better choice, in our opinion.
