The Baby-sitters Club spoilers reveal this series is a total hit. Seriously. It’s actually currently in the top 10 on the platform, and we see why. For those who haven’t seen it, or might not know much about the series that started this new show, let’s take a look at the basics and how Days of Our Lives actually fit in. Yes, you read that right.

The Baby-sitters Club spoilers: The basics

This show started back in the 1980s as a young adult books series about a bunch of middle-school students who start a babysitting business. Each book was told from the perspective of a different characters, and there would be a balance between that character’s personal story and their adventures with their clients/the club. It also became a short HBO series, as well as a feature-length film. If you happen to get the inspiration to read the series after this, we’ll give you a tip: skip chapter 2. It doesn’t matter what book. After you see the first few sitters give their run down of the club, how it works, and who its members are, you won’t want to keep reading that bit.

The Baby-sitters Club spoilers: Why we love it

Honestly, we will go on record as saying this far surpassed the original TV show, plus the movie. While we liked both of those, the team behind this show really captured the heart of the series, and childhood, so well. It left us smiling and wanting to revisit our favorite stories.

The Baby-sitters Club spoilers reveal they managed to do a pretty good job of keeping the tone/spirit of the original (and most details) while adding the modern twists. The characters were pretty much how we remembered them—and how we’d expect them to be in today’s world. Especially Dawn Shafer (Xochitl Gomez), who organizes a protest at summer camp. Claudia Kishi’s (Momona Tamada) trademark crazy clothes were represented, as well as Kristy Thomas’ (Sophie Grace) bossiness and genius. Mary Anne Spier (Malia Baker) was still in love with the idea of “The City” while also being shy, while Stacy McGill (Shay Rudolph) showed off her chic fashion sense and math genius. They even worked in her diabetes.

The Baby-sitters Club spoilers: The changes

This doesn’t mean they didn’t change quite a bit as well. The Baby-sitters Club spoilers reveal they changed the ethnicity/race of some characters, while Dawn’s parents got divorced due to him being gay. They also reflected the new times medically, with Stacy sporting an insulin pump instead of taking injections. The client that inspires Mary Anne to grow a backbone and make some changes to her overprotected life is a trans child with a different name.

Plus, they rearranged the book orders in the back half of the season. Again, while they did modernize the show, it was so close in so many ways, and so true to tone, it wasn’t jarring to us. Unlike a lot of the remakes that come out. And we think it was serious genius to make Dawn related to the woman that Karen Brewer (Sophia Reid-Gantzert) believed to be a witch named Morbidda Destiny. Spoiler alert: She is a witch. Just not the kind Karen thought.

The Baby-sitters Club spoilers: Soaps fix all

As recent soap fans, there was one moment that stuck out. And we’re sure Days of Our Lives viewers will enjoy. In The Truth About Stacy, the group learns about her disease. She’d been trying to avoid that, because a video spread by a friend in New York messed up her life badly, and Stoneybrook was a new start. As luck would have it, the last two episodes of the season focused on the girls going to camp. This two-parter was surely inspired by the Super Special where the girls did the same.

In the episodes, Laine Cummings (Beatrice Kitsos), Stacy’s old “friend” ends up at the camp as well. While Laine is obviously a bit contrite about her behavior and seems to be open to working things out, Stacy wanted nothing to do with her. This culminated in the girls falling into Poison Ivy and going to the camp infirmary. There, they end up bonding and making up—while watching DOOL. You even heard the iconic opening phrase mentioned. It’s a cute moment we got a laugh out of. Check it out and you’ll be glad you did. It’s a journey into a simpler world that reminds of us the child inside.
