‘Days of Our Lives’ spoilers reveal that Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) deserves better than Javi Hernandez’s (Al Calderon) insecure and senseless choice to break up with Leo and basically force him into Dimitri Von Leuschener’s (Peter Porte) arms.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: Leo and Javi’s Wedding Started Off Beautifully
Leo and Javi’s wedding began on a beautiful, poignant note. The two men said their vows to each other in a low-key wedding but wondefully moving ceremony at Horton Square.
DOOL seemed to get everything right about Leo and Javi’s big day. The end of Leo and Javi’s wedding when Dimitri suddenly appeared was perfectly soapy and delicious, leaving us on a cliffhanger.
Everything after has been written haphazardly and hasn’t stayed true to the strong foundation Leo and Javi had built their relationship on.
Javi is inexplicably handing Leo over to Dimitri without a fight. At first, I felt sorry for him and chalked up his behavior to potentially low self-esteem or an insecurity Javi felt in comparison to Dimitri, but now I am fed up.
Leo and Javi were one of the best couples on DOOL, and the writers took them in a very weird direction. Leo has made huge strides, shown character growth, and transformed into one of the most lovable characters in the soap genre.
It had seemed like Javi brought the best out in Leo and vice versa. They had been through a lot together, like raising baby Trey DiMera (Joseph Inlenf and Jordan Perdue) until he found a good home. It was joyful to watch them share their lives together in general.
Leo and Javi were both invested and in it for keeps. When Dimitri arrived at the end of their wedding, it was as if the vows they had exchanged literally moments prior to stand by each other for better or worse no longer carried any meaning.
Days of Our Lives Spoilers: Leo Made it Clear to Javi He Wasn’t Interested in Dimitri
Leo refused to succumb to Dimitri’s grand declaration of love and instead stayed strong, telling him right then and there that he had moved on and was now married to Javi.
Javi suddenly developed a massive insecurity issue that made him decide, “Well, Leo, your ex has returned. Meh, I give up.”
Leo was rightfully very confused. He’s come a long way from the man he used to be, and he thought he was starting a new chapter with his new husband and enjoying the fruits of the hard work and redemption. We thought Javi factored into that. Guess not.
Javi reacted to Leo as if he were the cause of Dimitri’s sudden appearance. Instead of spending his wedding night with his groom, he had a pity party and drank champagne. It was his choice. Still, everyone is acting as if Leo is the big bad wolf who broke Javi’s heart.
Arianna Horton (Marrissa Reyes) has been especially bitchy and insufferable. She didn’t like Leo in the first place, so she automatically turned against Leo like he was the one pushing Javi away.
Not to mention the fact that I wanted to reach through the screen and slap her across the face when she could barely contain her delight about Javi’s stupid decision.
Leo is and continues to be one of my favorite soap characters. If you ask me, Javi’s the real loser here. Again, I empathized with him right up until today’s episode (January 19th) when I saw the true extent of Javi’s brushing off Leo.
Yes, he agreed to speak with him briefly before leaving town (and even that was practically an insurmountable feat for poor Leo), but Javi clearly didn’t want to hear Leo’s side of the story.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: The Writers Burned Them as a Couple
The writers burned this couple so ridiculously that it’s almost impossible for them to come back from it, which, in my estimation, is a huge mistake.
Personally, I really don’t want a reboot of Leo and Dimitri’s lusty connection. It’s shallow and beneath Leo now. Plus, can we talk about that ’80s soap hair Dimitri is sporting now?
That said, the writers messed up, and part of that is because they film so far ahead of schedule that it’s difficult for them to tell which couples are working and which ones are duds.
However, that’s not exactly the writer’s fault, but some of the material involving this particular storyline, and maybe one or two others I can think of off the top of my head, is very frustrating.
With filming so far in advance, it does an injustice to the viewers who invested in these couples, rooted for them, and followed their love story from day one.
It’s so disappointing because I consider DOOL one of the better soaps. It’s very refreshingly unique, has a sense of humor, and heart all at once. The cast is also wonderful.
‘Days of Our Lives’ Spoilers: DOOL’s Ridiculous Filming Schedule Makes It Impossible for the Writers to Listen to the Fans
Yet, when it comes to their filming schedule, Corday Productions doesn’t think it’s worth it to shell out money from the budget.
The absolute bloodbath of the cast and shifting direction to the extreme has also been frustrating for fans.
We understand that this isn’t exactly the heyday of soaps, and money is tight. Yet, the core element of soaps, and part of the reason they are still around at all, is because of the fans.
If the writers are unable to listen to them, they risk alienating them altogether. Leo and Javi are only one example of that.
We have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. Yes, I am very grateful that DOOL is still on, and yes, I understand that Javi is being recast.
Yet, the firing of major cast members may signify trouble. The reason I went on about Javi and Leo is that, as a soap viewer, it’s cringey to watch some of the sloppy, uneven writing, specifically involving the likely demise of their relationship.
DOOL especially seems to send characters off either journeys of self-discovery or grand adventures when they prepare to introduce a new actor.
I also suspect that the unfortunate direction of Leo and Javi’s story may be a product of their filming schedule and not being able to listen to the fans.
Javi’s sudden turn isn’t really true to his character. Plus, my fear for Leo is that Javi’s leaving will cause him to backpedal on his progress, and that it will change him in a way we really don’t want to watch.
