Daily Soap Dish – Prince Andrew’s recent entanglement in a Chinese spy scandal may have finally pushed King Charles to his limit. Following a year of attempts to evict his brother from the Royal Lodge, the King may now be taking a firmer stance.
This latest scandal, following a string of controversies, has reportedly caused “further embarrassment” for the Royal Family, according to royal commentator Sarah Louise Robertson. “
Sarah Ferguson herself said, ‘Let’s not make any protests, keep our heads down, let’s not bring further embarrassment and cause trouble to the King and to the rest of the royal family,'” Robertson revealed on GB News.
Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein initially tarnished his image and led to his resignation from royal duties in 2020. However, despite these setbacks, Charles continued to include his brother in official events, albeit with increasing reluctance.
“I think Charles is very polite, and I think in these situations, courtiers and other people do that chastising for him,” Robertson explained. This year, Andrew was notably absent from the traditional royal Christmas walkabout, a clear indication of his diminishing role within the family.
While Andrew may not be facing homelessness, the pressure to vacate the Royal Lodge is mounting. “I think next year we’re going to see more pressure heaped on Andrew to move out of Royal Lodge and to go into a smaller property on the Windsor estate,” Robertson predicted.
The recent revelation that Andrew employed Yang Tengbo, a Chinese businessman later barred from the UK on national security grounds, has further exacerbated the situation. This “serious breach of national security” has reportedly infuriated the King.
“The palace has behaved the best it possibly can with a difficult relation,” an insider explained. “Every sanction that can be imposed has been, but you can’t divorce or sack your brother from being your brother. There will always be a bond of blood, and all families often have difficult relatives to deal with.”
While the palace may be reluctant to publicly sever ties with Andrew, the mounting pressure and the need to protect the monarchy’s reputation may ultimately force the King to take more decisive action.
