‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers indicate that there has been another shake-up in the writers’ room at GH. Anne Shoettle is now the show’s new script editor.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Too Many Unsolved Mysteries In Port Charles
Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte are the soap’s co-head writers, and Cathy LePard is the associate head writer. Hopefully, the script editor will be able to catch some of the mistakes made by the head writers. ‘
For example, someone needs to explain who killed Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) and what Sonny Corinthos‘s (Maurice Benard) pharmacist was doing at Wyndemere when, supposedly months ago, someone purchased it.
The writers have brought several plots to the table and then unceremoniously dropped them. There are also some ridiculous stories, like the recent development of Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) and Ava Jerome (Maura West) suddenly getting chummy again despite the fact that she tried to frame Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) for attempted murder.
While we don’t object to Ava’s redemption arc, we don’t think the writers handled it in a believable way. There should have been more conversation surrounding what Ava did to Sonny’s daughter and the fact that Ava tricked Nina into signing divorce papers so she could break up Sonny and Nina. None of it was ever explained.
Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) giving Nina another chance doesn’t mean she should forgive Ava without at least a conversation. Ava is a character who should never have been written into a corner to start with.
The writers seem to forget what they write from one day to the next. The editor’s job is to catch silly mistakes like this and rewrite them until the producer is satisfied.

In other words, they adjust the script and make it viable for the TV screen. Anne Shoettle is also married to David Shaughnessy, the brother of soap legend Charles Shaughnessy, who played Victor Cassadine on GH, and Shane Donovan on Days Of Our Lives. David has also directed Y&R, B&B, and DOOL
Anne is no stranger to the soaps. From January 1990 to June 1991, she was the head writer of Days of Our Lives.
She also had writing roles on other soaps like Sunset Beach, The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, Guiding Light, and Port Charles.
We hope this newly minted team can pick up the slack, write better stories, and improve ratings. Chris Van Etten and Dan O’Conner were fired this past January as head writers. Patrick Mulcahey and Elizabeth Korte replaced them.
In May, the writer’s room at GH was rocked because the head writer, Patrick Mulcahey, was let go after only a matter of months.
In his place are Elizabeth Korte and recently fired head writer Van Etten. It’s like a never-ending game of musical chairs to see who will become the head writer next.
With so many writing changes, it wouldn’t be surprising if the show switched head writers again in the near future. That being said, we wish Shoettle the best of luck fixing the misdirection and messy scripts. And we’re still glad we have GH as one of the four remaining soaps.
