There was a not so pleasant surprise waiting for ‘General Hospital’ (GH) spoilers when Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) got himself shot in his home to close out Friday, November 17’s episode.
Of course, we have no clue who shot and probably killed him since it was two bullets to the chest, but he knew. In fact, he was surprisingly calm and resigned when he saw who was waiting for him.
So, that got us to wondering who it was and if he’s really dead.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Too convenient?
The most obvious choice to shoot him is Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) since Austin just left the police department where he talked to Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) about handing Cyrus and damning evidence over to him.
And since no one but Dante heard the conversation, it seems unlikely that anyone knew why he went to the police, but Cyrus could’ve expected it and had someone watching him while another laid in wait.
But it feels like there’s something more to this than that, and we’ll touch on that in a minute.
Another obvious possibility would be Ava Jerome (Maura West) for all the hell his actions put her through, but that’s an even longer reach than Cyrus.
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers don’t see her killing him, though she may want to. In fact, she shamed him into going to the police. But maybe she didn’t know he did and decided to enact her own revenge?
‘General Hospital’ Spoilers: Nikolas Cassadine?
Okay, we admit this is a stretch too, but given Austin recognized his attacker and didn’t seem surprised, there’s a chance Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) came back and wanted his own form of revenge.
While shooting someone in cold blood doesn’t really fit Nikolas, this could be his way of getting back at Ava for almost killing him.
He could look at this as a way of hurting her despite Austin saving him and helping him recover. Since he’s been moving around the world trying not to be found, he could’ve been up to anything, and that may even involve hiring some assassins to do his work for him.
He may even be looking to set Ava up for Austin’s murder since she does have motive and means available to her.
However we look at it, there’s a good chance Austin’s attacker will be a mystery for some time, and may even be part of a larger storyline overall.
