According to royal author Ingrid Seward, when Queen Elizabeth met Meghan Markle, she was excited to see what she would do to help the royal family. She believed this woman would achieve great heights with Prince Harry.
Prince Philip Warned the Queen About Meghan
In fact, the whole country fell in love with this glamorous American actress. But one royal wasn’t entirely buying it. Prince Philip warned the Queen to tread carefully with Meghan.
Philip told his wife that Meghan Markle reminded him too much of the Duchess of Windsor. When Philip was a little boy, Princess Elizabeth’s father became King.
In 1936, the Duke of Windsor abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson, who was both American and twice divorced; the royal family does not take these things lightly. Simpson caused a significant rift in the royal family.
First of all, the Church of England refused to marry people in the sanctity of the church if their ex-spouses were still alive.
Secondly, the King disapproved of her, and the Duchess apparently mocked the Queen Mother. The Queen Mother regarded Simpson as a “wicked enchantress.” As it turned out, the King’s fate was an early grave.
The Queen Mother was furious, blaming the couple for her husband’s early death. She felt that the disruption of the Duke and Duchess becoming husband and wife and the stress of being King killed him.
Queen Elizabeth understood what Philip meant when he compared Meghan to the Duchess of Windsor. Later, the Queen made a pointed remark that Harry was “too in love” with the American actress.
The Queen was distraught when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties and left the UK. She was even more upset about the 2021 Oprah interview in which the royal family was made out to be a bunch of monsters.
Meghan Markle Offended the Queen, and Harry Pitied Himself
Meghan’s act never swayed Prince Philip. He always tried to tell the Queen who and what she was, pointedly calling her the Duchess of Windsor.
As for the Queen Mother, she was outraged when Wallis and Edward were photographed next to Hitler giving the Nazi salute.
When Harry and Meghan were married, the Queen didn’t like how white Meghan’s dress was. She was, after all, a divorcee. From the Queen’s perspective, it wasn’t appropriate for a divorcee to be married in a church wearing a dress so blatantly white.
Harry made a career pitying himself for being the “Spare,” brought into the world “In case something happened to Willy.”
Harry always got away with doing whatever he wanted. But as the heir, William had to always play by the rules. It was the primary source of contention between the brothers until Meghan came along.
When Philip passed in 2021, Harry flew to England, and Meghan, who was pregnant with their daughter, Lilabet, made it a point to go on TV and tell everyone she would be watching from home. It was seen as an attention-seeking move.
Meghan also described the “beautiful” floral wreath she sent in great detail, almost giving the florist a commercial endorsement. In the end, Philip proved to be right about Meghan and comparisons to the Duchess of Windsor.
