The Gilgo Beach case victim’s sister has spoken out about the misery the killer imposed on their family through distressing phone calls. Unbelievably, the murderer repeatedly used the victim’s own telephone, adding insult to injury.

Melissa Barthelemy, a native of Buffalo, New York, went missing, and on December 11, 2010, her body was found. Soon later, three other young women’s remains were discovered close along remote areas of Long Island’s beach.

A 59-year-old Manhattan architect named Rex Heuermann has been detained and accused with three killings, including Barthelemy’s. On July 14, authorities found him at his Long Island home.

The fact that the suspect had used her own smartphone to insult Barthelemy’s family soon after her 2009 abduction made the scenario very disturbing for her family. He even confessed murdering her throughout these calls.

Barthelemy‘s sister Amanda F spoke to PIX11 about the terrifying encounter. When she was just 15 years old, the murderer started calling her. After her sister was killed, Amanda said that the man had been watching her very carefully and was familiar with her name and looks.

According to court filings, the police later tracked the conversations and discovered proof that Heuermann’s deceased sister’s phone had pinged at Penn Station in Manhattan, close to his business, as well as in Massapequa, where he resided.

Amanda described the horrifying phone calls she received in 2020, in which the murderer would disparage her sister and make allusions to her engagement in sex industry. Heuermann is now accused of killing Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello in the first and second degrees.

Additionally, he is the “prime suspect” in another murder investigation, according to the officials. Although Amanda and her family may have some hope for resolution in the future, the tragedy is still far from done.

Amanda worries about the prosecution’s capacity to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt and the trial’s potential emotional toll and recurrence of trauma.

What do you think? Is there any chance at all that Heuermann gets away or will he be imprisoned for a long time? Let us know in the comments below.
